Fish Folk
The spotfin chub could be a very popular fish if enough study was done on how to keep them well

He was very polite, and shared some great articles he’d contributed to. But the idea of ex situ multiplication of endangered darters (i.e. keeping in an aquarium, etc) was not really something he thought had much value versus in situ conservation (i.e. keep Turkey Creek clean and secure!) I ran my correspondence past Greg Sage (Select Aquatics). Greg definitely understood both sides well. He suggested that there could be some value in ex situ breeding programs for endangered native species, but that very, very few hobbyists are prepared to be that intensive and disciplined. Unfortunately, most of us keep fish for a year or so... then get bored, and redo things. Edited January 17, 2021 by Fish Folk

Very excited to be getting a male & female pair of Rainbow Darters this week. Got a tank set up for them. 68-degrees F, Lots of filtration, lots of flow. Snails to feed (in other aquariums), along with frozen blood worms (which the seller tells us is what they're fed currently). The occasional chopped up earthworm is also on the menu. Got their dedicated 29 gal set up. Planning to also add some lovely Rainbow Shiners. Lots of Greens going in the back left corner -- probably Valisneria Americana -- to wobble in the current flow. Added a small HYDOR water-fan / powerhead to push the water through the tank. how is your darter tank going? I recently received a mix of ten darters. rainbow, greenside, johney and fantail. They seem to be happy but are finicky eaters preferring live snails and endler fry.

Got to stash your freezer full. We catch Fantail Darters in our backyard creek. Never kept them in our tanks yet. We catch, photograph, and release… My Banded Darters are a bit worse for the wear, having been housed awhile with a small breeding set of Southern Redbelly Dace. But they’re recovering. When in normal dress, they look like this… Cone spring, they green-up… The random Swamp Darter I brought home from my LFS didn’t make it long term. Rainbow Darters are doing great. Only lost a few in a tank that got hit bad with sickness. In the nasty, wild tank, I’d see them once in a while… Recently, I moved them all to a new NSNF tank. They put on colors for the move! I hope to shoot some video there tomorrow. I’ll try to remember to tag you when I post!
