How to attach aquarium lid?

Dumb question...does the plastic piece attach the the glass as shown in picture 1 or 2? What's the reason for doing it ine way versus another?

I don’t think it matters significantly but I find mineral harder to get off than algae, so I do the flattest surface up since that’s where mineral accumulates for my tanks.  I have very hard tap water that’s so hard I mix it roughly 50:50 with RO to get reasonable GH / KH and pH.

I really don’t know why they make them with extra ridges except for strength.

I do the first but I dont think it would really matter that much

Thanks!  I was gonna go with #1 but I wasn't sure if those additional ridges served a purpose I just didn't know about.

i tend to go with #1 as it leads to less trimming to get the lid to lay flat.

#2 - It allows me to put my aquarium trimming tools on the plastic strip. The tab at the rear will not allow the tools to slip off the back and fall down the back of the aquarium.
