johnnyxxl
My Tiger Barbs dug up one of the root tabs I used today. Not the API ones but the co-op ones. I had the API ones and they never bothered them. I just started using the co-op ones and they seem interested in the capsules. Are my fish just strange or is this normal.
mynameisnobody
Did you actually see them dig it up? Sometimes when I use root tabs, if not inserted all the way down, they tend to pop up and make a bit of a mess. None of it affects the fish, but it’s def unsightly.
Plursa
I don't know if my Corys dig them up, but they seem to LOVE eating the mushy capsules!
GoofyGarra
The capsules on the Coop root tabs are made out of Gelatin, this is why fish love to eat them.
PonyPlantedTanks
Even my betta will snack on the gelatin if I ever don’t plug them in deep enough. He’s a menace😂
johnnyxxl
They kept trying to get them when I was inserting them. I even bribed them with tubifex worms while I was inserting them in the substrate. They then were eating the capsule. I may switch back to API so that they will leave them alone.
mynameisnobody
How deep is your substrate? I haven’t heard of any fish actively digging them out unless they are general diggers.

mynameisnobody
2” should work fine, but 1” is really shallow, hence the tabs popping up. Not sure of the size of the other root tabs you use, but if they’re smaller than the ACO then that’s probably why those have worked.
Beach Cruiser
My corys act like it's their one job to dig up root tabs. 😆
johnnyxxl
I will work more substrate in when I have time
nabokovfan87
Substrate might not be deep enough if that keeps happening. Basically, you want to poke a hole in the end so they can't float and you can purge out air with gelcap type tabs.
