Setting up new 20 gallon aquarium. Any ideas?

I LOVE honey gourami! A trio of 2 females and one male would be perfect. They are very peaceful as well, compared to dwarf gourami which tend to be more aggressive. I have never kept peacock gudgeon before, but I think they are very pretty. For a schooling fish, neon tetras are great, but my personal favorite are cherry barbs! For bottom dwellers, you could do snails, pygmy corys, or, another of my favorites, kuhli loaches!

I have a pair of peacock gudgeons right now and they mostly keep to themselves. Very colorful fish and they’re super fun to watch in a planted tank. They’re very photogenic too 😁IMG_0191.jpeg.52d8c0123014da4738416172dc823a64.jpeg

Do you think it's better to keep a male and female peacock gudgeon or is it okay for just a male?

My female has been very docile in the tank. When I introduced a male she didn't really pay attention to him but they do swim together sometimes. A pair should be fine in a 20g.

Also, do honey gouramis have personality to them?

Yes. Immune interact with one another using their feelers. They even interact with me through the glass using feelers.  Mine eat from a coral feeder each getting in line to take their turn. I love them 🥰

maybe some dwarf cichlids, or some spotted blue eye rainbowfish

I was thinking about dwarf chiclids but I'm worried they will be to aggressive especially towards the shrimp fry. The rainbow fish I havent thought about before. Thank you for the idea.
