ChemBob
What is the general consensus on quarantining shrimp and snails prior to introducing to an established tank? I have existing snails and a couple of shrimp. I am leaning towards yes with no meds to prevent introducing some fast pathogen that would take out my entire populations. Are there any meds that would be preventive for shrimp or snails similar to the med trio for fish?
GardenStateGoldfish
I would agree with the yes with no meds quarantine. I think there is more risk to shrimp passing things to each other (That green/yellow fungus of death) I am sure there are snail diseases also, but I think they are less common/lethal most people worry about the snail shells carrying pathogens to their fish. I know there are many invert safe medications on the market (paraguard for example, I think Ich-X is also one) when looking at medication just google if it is invertebrate safe or not, but snails and shrimp are more sensitive so I would only treat once you see something rather then preventative. Hobbit
I recently lost almost all my cherry shrimp when a new batch I got from my LFS brought in some kind of infection. The fish in the tank were fine but now I’m down to two shrimp. I learned my lesson. I’ll be quarantining new shrimp from now on. 🙂
