10g Tank for Breeding N Guentheri Killifish

I pulled the black sand, put it in a Tupperware with a bit of tank water, gently swirled the sand around for ~20 seconds, and like magic there were dozens of eggs sitting on the surface of the sand.

It was still a bit tedious picking them out but nothing like picking them from dirt. I think I'll try fine sand and sifting next.

Updates

- Those eggs ask fungused over...

- I sold a pair to someone locally

- I moved the smallest male who was constantly picked on, over to my display tank. He went from sad and pale to fully colored overnight.

My son named him Fred. I'm be keeping a close eye on Fred to make sure he's behaving. Hopefully his tomorrow nature stays in place and he can stay in the tank.

After that I'll be down to three females and three males (not counting the runt I moved to the display tank so he didn't get picked on)

That is a beautiful fish! Any plans when the last 3 pairs are gone?

Quick update: the remaining fish are doing well.

When I got rid of some males and moved the runt to my main tank, it threw off their hierarchy and they began some serious sparring. This guy's find were pretty much ripped to shreds. It was too the point that I was considering euthanizing him.

He's spent roughly the last month below the fry grow out tray and he has recovered amazingly. Depending on the lighting he'll occasionally look almost purple or indigo and not nearly as much yellow as his brothers.

It is crazy how much lighting impacts they're color!

For comparison, here are the other males that I still have.

The male still with the females:

Fred, the lonely guy making advances at confused guppies in my main display:

Glad to hear everyone is doing well! You aren’t kidding about the color differences. Fred seems like a real horn dog 😂

They're all basically perpetual stereotypical teenagers. They just eat constantly, try to mate, pick on each other to see who's coolest, and sneak out of the house.

Don’t remind me what I’m in for with my 3 and 6 year old boys 😂

I tried putting my three remaining males in one display tank. One of them is very aggressive, he chased the second fish out of the tank and really beat up the third one. They’re separated now and all is good, but it wasn’t a smart move.

The fry are growing so I've moved them to a new box. I suspect that they are female but it's hard to tell at this point

I also got some video of males sparring:

Those babies are growing! My male Aphyosemions like to spar like that too usually after a nice feeding of brine shrimp really gets them fired up! Those males are soooo good looking!!

Yeah they are growing much faster than the Fundulopanchax Gresensi fry I have growing

Thanks! I think a lot of it is the amount of live foods I've been giving them. Lots of daphnia, grindal worms, and stuff like that

How many babies do you have at the moment?

For these it's only the two. But then I have three Fundulopanchax Gresensi growing out.

I have another batch that should be ready in a few weeks
