Saltinthedesert
I know my CPDs are laying eggs but I think they’re getting snatched up. Any tricks to preserving those eggs? I’ve seen the yarn spawn mops…do those work? Do you float the mop or sink it? Thanks in advance!
Saltinthedesert
Also, any suggestions on what kind of yarn to use?
Beardedbillygoat1975
The most successful strategy for maximum yield - using a medium that they are attracted to like moss over the top of either 1 of 2 setups - something like marbles where the fish can't get to the eggs - or 2 having a lift mechanism a lift tube essentially that pulls the eggs up to another container. pcb09
I sink a breeding box to the bottom of the tank. Throw java moss on top. Early afternoon i shake the java moss above the breeder box, then grab a pipette and suck the eggs up of the tray of the breeder box, and underneath the breeder box tray. Toss em all in a tank just for baby cpd and before you know it i have fry and cpds.

a.modest.aquarist
Last summer I was able to breed a bunch using similar methods mentioned above. In my case I used a small glass container with the spawning mop loosely placed inside. Everyday about an hour after lights on, I would pick out the eggs from the mop and place into a grow out tank. The fry are tiny so if you have some infusoria or green water handy that may help survival rate. Good Luck!
