Aquatic Journal
Hello, I am building a fish room and I am thinking of using a IBC tote to store water for water changes as I don’t have running water. What do I need to look for in a tote. I see used ones for around $50 here. Can I use any food grade tote as long as I rinse and wash it with vinegar? Any other ideas for storing 200+ gallons of water would be appreciated!

I like something with a bottom drain and a lid to prevent evaporation. I use a garden hose pump connected to the bottom drain to pump water out of it. 2 hours ago, Aquatic Journal said: Can I use any food grade tote as long as I rinse and wash it with vinegar? Assuming you can get your arm in to clean it, those ibc totes only have a small opening from what I've seen. 2 hours ago, Aquatic Journal said: Any other ideas for storing 200+ gallons of water would be appreciated! I use a 100 gallon Norwesco vertical tank. They make sizes much bigger than that. I liked buying a new unused tank because I knew it was clean then. Reasonably priced in my opinion for what they are, a few hundred dollars depending on size. You may also find one with a footprint that better suites your space.
Administrators Cory Posted October 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 7, 2020 I had no problem with ones that had food grade stuff in it before I started using them. A pump on a wifi switch is what I used to move water around for filling tanks and such.
