Expectorating_Aubergine
I already have one tank like this with a different species of ficus on it. Figured I'd do a bigger one with two species on there. Anyone else doing this? I only have an air stone in there, as the ficus roots strip just about everything out of the water... except for the tannins. Don't know why the pic is upside down. It's right side up on my phone.... 1

Love it! Rotated your photo here… Love the tannins. Nice EBA too! I use Pothos. I jam the roots into a large folded piece of thick filter material and put into Aqueon 75 HOBs. Maybe Ficus would do better with nitrate control. I’ve got about 200+ EBAs growing out in this tank…
Beardedbillygoat1975
That looks great. Would recommend getting some magic erasers to help with the algae and scale left behind from the minerals from evaporated water. Much more fun then a typical blackwater I would imagine.
Expectorating_Aubergine
That's actually condensation from the water. The wierd angle I took to avoid my reflection makes it look like water scale. Those magic erasers are amazing tho. Fish Folk, that aquarium looks great! Yeah I have a 125 in the garage that has tons of pothos and a Ficus macrophylla growing out of it. Of all the terrestrial plants I've tried growing out of an aquarium, bananas were the heaviest feeders (actual banana plants, not the aquatic water lily called a "banana plant"). They pull so much out of the water that I had to add dry ferts to keep the other plants happy. I currently have a banana growing in a pond outside and in the summer I have the same issues with its heavy feeding. Patrick_G
This is really cool! I think this would also be cool with the tank on a very low stand so it’s a pot for the ficus but a indoor mini pond got the fish.
Expectorating_Aubergine
Here's my 125. The ficus got defoliated to encourage bushier growth... Edited December 4, 2021 by Expectorating_Aubergine
