Enjoying the Banded Darters this evening. Greenest fish ever!

Patient Spouse™ says this is the Endlers in their tank in their room, everytime I come in to take care of anything. Apparently, if I leave the room, they all hang out in the corner, waiting for me to come back with bbs, mosquito larvae, or whatever else I'm serving for dinner, lol

Been awhile since I added to this thread. I am expecting a box of fish this week. Included will be two pairs of Orangethroat Darters (Etheostoma spectabile). The “money-shot” on these is this photo…

In reality… maybe one in a thousand heats up that well in spring spawning colors.

But they sure can be lookers…

To moderate expectations, mine will probably look like this…

They range between TN and VA. I’m told the coloration may be very limited to spawning seasons. TN game law is tricky. VA would be a safer bet for catching in the wild. There might be some in KY. iNat info is scarce.

I was offered a chance to reserve some Variegate Darters today. They’re attractive…

But they’re also very commonly _hybrids_ in certain water systems. They cross with the endangered Candy Darter. Here’s a commonly circulated graphic…
