Tyler LaZerte
The first photo is from 4 days ago. The second is from today. My AR has melted back and the floor has a lot of diatoms. Should I do anything or is this the normal progression?
Yanni
I believe that this regular. AR will naturally melt as it is usually grown emersed. If I were you, I'd definetely try to get rid of the diatoms on the sand. Try gravel vaccing to get rid of them, stirring up the substrate will also work.

Patrick_G
I remember that you cut these guys in half. I bet it’s the bottom half that’s melting. For me it’s always seems to be the case that the top half has more vigor. Edited May 31, 2021 by Patrick_G
Tyler LaZerte
@Patrick_G Yes, the stuff that's left is the bottom part.
Patrick_G
The bottom half of my AR pulled through and is sending out two stems at the point where I pruned them.
Tyler LaZerte
Hopefully mine does the same. Otherwise, I may have to rip it all out and start over.
Patrick_G
Well you might lose the bottom half but don’t give up on it.
