tolstoy21
Are the amounts of kosher salt used to treat sick aquarium fish roughly equivalent to what's recommended for 'aquarium salt'? I know that in cooking, kosher salt and table salt substitution ratios are not a 1-to-1 . So I'm wondering the same about using kosher salt in aquarium disease treatment? Anyone have some good info on this topic? Edited April 15, 2021 by tolstoy21

Anyone have some good info on this topic? Just a hint of info . . . nothing complete . . . I think that Rock Salt and Kosher Salt are more or less pure sodium chloride. Here's an interesting article comparing various salts for aquarium usage. Nothing terribly technical. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for: https://www.tankarium.com/aquarium-salt-vs-epsom-salt-vs-sea-salt-vs-table-salt/ Edited April 15, 2021 by Fish Folk
tolstoy21
Just now, Fish Folk said: Just a hint of info . . . nothing complete . . . I guess my worry was that a tablespoon of one might pack more or less densely than the other, skewing the amount of salt I'm actually dosing. In any event, thats for the link.
tolstoy21
Hmmm, on second thought, I guess I could also use solar salt which is essentially rock salt. Probably more equivalent in size to aquarium salt and cheaper than using up all my kosher salt.
KBOzzie59
Not sure if you are or plan to add brine shrimp hatching to your hobby but this is what I use for treatment and BBS hatching. https://www.homedepot.com/p/50-lbs-Rock-Salt-Ice-Melt-AR-RS50BG/315841041?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&mtc=Shopping-B-F_D28O-G-D28O-28_1_CHEMICALS-NA-NA-NA-SMART-NA-NA-SMART_SHP&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D28O-G-D28O-28_1_CHEMICALS-NA-NA-NA-SMART-NA-NA-SMART_SHP-71700000059845719-58700005436056249-92700049554889054&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyN-DBhCDARIsAFOELTkkhvkZXqRaJJOLioyR7-OkLFwdxTn_hrJxw8uSVDm443MQCasNGlsaAni3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

It has no additives and is just pure salt.
