  1. Thanks for the advice! I have some hideouts in the tank already, I'll place the wafers directly into them next time. Again, and as always, appreciate the help!
  2. I got 8 Panda Cory's a while back and just added them to my community tank a few days ago. On the great advice of @Guppysnail I fed them hikari... um cory wafers? Okay too lazy to grab the bag and verify exact name. Anyway, they're great, the cory's love 'em. Turns out tho, every fish in the tank loves 'em too. Rummies, platies, neons, guppies, they're all in a frenzy for these darn things easily overpowering the cory's to eat them. I feed my pleco and shrimp at night when it's dark and the rest of the tank is sleeping, should I be doing this for the Cory's as well? Do they feed at night? Any tips or just leave it be and don't worry about it too much? Appreciate any insights you all might have.
  3. I have a fluval 207, used all the foam provided and then crammed pot scrubbers into the rest of the bins. 3 months in and all seems to be working great. But this is my first canister and I have yet to open it so my perspective isn't time-tested yet.
  4. I also want to ask the group here, could there be problems with over cleaning the tank too quickly in this case. Could there be old tank syndrome issues at play here? Great advice @Guppysnail. I've read, not yet experienced, that a very established aquarium is far more resilient to total cleanings (the beneficial bacteria I mean) and hopefully shouldn't cause a cycling crash.
  5. I'm sorry for the stress and trouble you're going through. Regarding food, I believe the fish will adapt and start eating the food you bought them when they're hungry enough. You probably want to feed sparingly for a while anyway. While I don't have experience with fish not wanting to eat, I have learned (finally) that fish can go a while without eating and still be fine.
  6. Yeah, I thought amanos were great at this, never kept them but from what I read online anyway, but that cherries not so much. As if I could enjoy them even more, well isn't this nice!
  7. I noticed some of my plants (Buce) have gotten tufts of black hair algae growing on them. It isn't out of control or anything, I was going to prune some leaves and see what happens. But I got busy the last couple of days and didn't get around to it. Today I'm finally going to clean the tank, but I noticed there isn't as much algae as before and a shrimp was grazing on the stuff. I didn't think they touched the bha, am I wrong? Is this something else? It's black, hairy, and algae so I figured bha. I've always treated shrimp as decorations (because hey, they're cool) in my tank and didn't expect much from their cleaning abilities. Anybody have better intel than me on this subject? Because I am all ears (ok, eyes, still getting used to changing my rhetoric to fit the medium of chats and forums :)
  8. Well they all arrived excited and in great condition! So dang cute too. Now I have a school of eight of these crazy kids.
  9. Thanks for nothing @Beardedbillygoat1975. I don't need another gateway drug/fish in my life, and now you start me down another avenue of really cool fish?! 😉 Not cool 😉
  10. That's very interesting to me, I know very little about lemon tetras and I'm realizing I love schooling behavior in fish. Thanks!
  11. That is amazing and helpful info @Guppysnail, you deserve to get a CARE package from Co-op someday. Won't ever happen tho 😉 (congrats on that by the way, and very well deserved!) My past experience has been shrimp, guppies, and bettas via the mail. Not a single death until the tetras so I wasn't sure what to expect from the cory's. I'll be continuing the hijacking of this thread with pics later today. Hope that's okay @Beardedbillygoat1975? I know I strayed off topic just a bit. Black neons and rummy nose are not the same. I can vouch for the bullet proof nature of Black Neons. That said, the surviving rummys have been hanging in there just great. Their skittish nature also meant they school together better than black neons which stopped schooling in my tank once they got comfortable.
  12. To quickly clarify, not bashing LiveAquaria. The fish were all bagged separately and seemed packed very well with heat and all that. The fish were also high quality, far surpassing my LFS', sadly. Sorry, I reread my post and it sounded like I was throwing them under the bus, just wanted to expand on the experience.
  13. Yeah, the rummy nose tetras I got from LiveAquaria did not fair so well back in October. A little gun shy after that experience.
  14. Thank you for the intel @Guppysnail! I was simply curious as to what to expect should the "we're expecting" happen. Say that 3x's fast 🙂 And my Panda cory's are out for delivery! Perfect timing too, middle of December and they're on a postal truck suffering record-breaking high temps today in Iowa, it was 61 degrees at 6 o'clock here. So I'm hopeful they'll be in good shape upon arrival... uh-oh, did I just jinx myself?
  15. If, and that’s a big if, my Cory’s start to drop eggs how hard are they to get rid of? I’m fairly new to fish that aren’t livebearers but I still have nightmares of trying to clean nerite snail eggs off decorations and glass.
  16. I’ve got two and six more are traveling across country to my doorstep as I type. Hope the6 make it tomorrow. I think they’re great.
  17. Your current schedule will be fine. I have them and change 30% weekly, no problems at all. But at first they may be a little fragile, mine were then they got used to life in my tank. Do a water change before you get them and then change in 2-3 weeks and enjoy. They're a lot of fun to watch.
  18. Thank you thank you @Guppysnail! I'll get some of the Hikari wafers to try. So far I've tried Cobalt's shrimp sinking wafers, it was met with an initial "meh". They liked Basleer's micro pellets. They sink pretty fast.
  19. @GuppysnailExactly! Holy cow, I had no idea they would hoover everything. How are they with plants?
  20. I bought two Panda Cory's yesterday. I wanted more, checked out 3 fish stores and no Pandas, with a 4th store not realizing they had two left. Anyway, I bought 'em to see if I would like them. To answer that question, I just ordered 6 from Aquahuna. Super cute to look at and just watch. I knew they were bottom dwellers but I didn't realize how much and what they would eat! After one night in my filthy quarantine tank, I checked it out a few minutes ago and noticed my tank was sparkling! What gives? I've fed them, twice, and that tank had mulm and algae all over it. How much can these little buggers eat? I'm thinking I'll fast them for a day at least, is that a good idea? I wasn't expecting tank cleaners, just bottom dwelling little puppies. I know a lot here have sung their praises so I was curious if any of you might have one tip you would share about them?
  21. I’m fairly confident you’ll be fine adding gravel. Not certain because I’m not certain of anything aquarium related. Other than fish need water to survive, that I’m certain of.
  22. Oh don't be sad @Guppysnail, of course I'll try it. It won't be as interesting as yours is, but I'll give it the ol college try.
  23. That's great to know! I added mine on day one since I bought it and the canister filter at the same time. Now this is only my two cents, so take it with a grain of salt, but I might suggest you keep it running all the time vs 6 hours a day. The power it uses is small and lights burn out most often due to being switched on and off. Also, I don't think they're all that great at killing stuff in a pass or two. They're just not powerful enough. But with lots of constant passes? Now that might be something worthwhile.
  24. I've thought about doing this, but worried it would be used to build a case against me for crimes against aquaria. 😉 It seems like fun but really it would only be full of "don't do what I did" anecdotes.
  25. It won't fit the FX series, different sized hoses. I have the UV filter on my 207. Couldn't tell you if it works or not, but I do know I have it turned on.
