  1. I have some guppies that reproduce at a slow rate. I have some that don’t breed like crazy and don’t grow that fast you can see in my pores space experiment how slow the grow. I’m now saying buy these from this person. They are not as gold a shown.

You could add some bristlenose pleco for clean up they would do well in that setup if you going for a pure biotope the only south American snails a have seen are Columbian giant ramshorn snails

Pomacea bridgesii, common names the spike-topped apple snail or mystery snail, is a South American species of freshwater snail with gills and an operculum, an aquaticgastropod mollusk in the family Ampullariidae.

The native distribution of this snail is Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguayand Peru

I watched another video last night where Cory mentioned it and wanting to switch because he doesn't like how it shows/looks dirty.  But he has specific reasons and I don't want to put words in his mouth.  It's a personal preference and I see a lot of black substrate tanks.

Different strokes. I have lots of tanks with black but they are mostly eco complete. This is my first time with this coal slag. So time will tell. I hate white sand because I think it shows everything.

I managed to get a better picture today.  I few of the larger ones are starting to get their angel dorsal fins.  But I couldn’t get a good shot of them.

    Nice growth

  5. Most of these guys know my I don’t like to mess with water conditions. To me you kinda have what you have. If something happens and you can’t do those changes to keep the new perimeter your screwed. I have health issues and I’m pretty sure that my tanks will stand 7 -14 days with doing any to the water. I’ve been hospitalized and know that as long as someone feeds the fish I’m ok. The crushed coral is good but I would keep it in a a filter. If you put it the substrate it only lasts so long. I’m sure I’m opinion doesn’t suprise anyone. @nabokovfan87is right about black water you can add peat to the filter it won’t do much other than make sure the ph stays close to the same. It’s not a buffer, a constant supply of acid. That stops the swings

  6. I would not worry to much I have lots of tanks but kh is near zero and GH is super high over 300. My ph ranges from 6 if I add acid to 6.8. The kh being low means you have to watch for ph swings. I personally don’t have that problem. I do the same thing every time. I still use wonder shell to induce breeding and my water is low in. Ca and high in mg

  7. Yes, it has to be washed and you should run a magnet over it. The I was helped by a few pro here on which bag to get because black Diamond sell other blasting products. Use a medium or course. This is medium but next time when I do the sand I am going to try to get the course. The bag should look like the one pictured in the beginning. I love the stuff. You can see the bits of metal some in the picture that has it in my hand, before the magnet and I have to admit I did a poor job with it.

Nice.  How long will you run the experiment?

I plan on 6 months. But there is no end date. All the plants look so much better than when I started. I was against sand until this. I have tried all kinds and hated the all from pool filter sand to Carib sea. I really have fallen in love with the black Diamond coal slag. That said it does take a little prep but nothing crazy. I think when I fish this one I’m going to just use 3 sands. Pool filter sand the coal slag and one of the popular pet store sold brands. ,

  9. In my 75 I have 7-8 angels and depending on the tetras you can have a good size school of 12-24 the rams 5-7. Plus if you are going to have ottos, plecos or whatever. In the beginning you will have to test more often. I would start with small fish and let grow. The tank will adjust and should be fine. I feel most stocking recommendations are conservative.

  10. There is not much room in a 20 to that. I would shorten the lift tubes. Is not going to have the power that a tall lift. Will a short tube you should be able to hide it with some plants or scape.

    here are some ideas

This is more what I was talking about

I also have .5 inch matter filter with high ppi. I think taking up all the space on the bottom is a waste of space.

here are the filter material on top of the UGF.

  11. I have a tank going with 3 substrates. One on the far left is old used up porous gravel the middle is black Diamond coal slag(bdbs), and the right is larger pea gravel. I did it to test root grow. But so far I can only measure top growth.  Here is what I have posted so far

So far the middle coal slag is doing the best based on how the plants looked in the beginning. The left  porous black gravel is second. And the large gravel is third. That said I believe the roots are growing better in the large gravel and I think that will lead to the best growth over time. It is only a month old. 2C46384F-D590-4F76-888B-65AFD5721D7F.jpeg.478c23367267694d467d7abea0c9f351.jpegB9724A8B-7A95-4B90-A4A6-B86B4A88B860.jpeg.950661880d661b5cd0ad01caaf3ded4f.jpeg67767D27-9D0C-4710-98C1-397AF3D8AAD7.jpeg.6fe96a2951b50615571d11a01045a6af.jpeg

@Hobbit this is a much more recent development! My chickens were a bit skittish until recently. I heard they often sweeten to getting handled as they approach point of lay/maturity and I’m so happy my ladies trust me enough to pet them. My eggers are still skittish and prefer not to be touched, but they are just fine chilling out next to me so I never force it.

Our kids handled them from the time they where hatched. Even the rooster we had would come when called and hop up in my sons arms. I would handle and give treats when doing so.

  13. Well I guess I have seven pairs now. I removed the platinum pair that laid in the 75 gal community and there was two angelfish left but they neve seemed like they would pair up they sort of didn’t like each other. I was in the room 20 mins ago and nothing. Now eggs on the heater. This is the 3rd time the angelfish have laid on this type of heater. This I the first time this pair has breed so we will see how it goes. I had to rig a Barrier like last time with the lid. It worked well last time .
