  1. She died. Thanks everyone for helping out. I am starting a new thread investigating what happened, as this is easily the 4th time it has happened. I will link it below leter. Thanks again https://forum.aquariumcoop.com/topic/24089-input-wanted-investigating-sudden-deaths-in-aquarium-fish/#comment-217295
  2. Just an update, I was able to get her to eat the medicated food, so the metroplex and focus is now inside her. She isn’t making that “gulping” motion as severely anymore, and she is kind of surfing along the bottom of the tank, still sideways, but finding food and eating it. She isn’t “inhaling” it as she usually does, but she is getting it in her mouth and “swallowing” it if you know what I mean. Also, she isn’t listing to the side as severely anymore after adding the salt, so thanks @Colu. She isn’t fully ok yet, but if she keeps improving at the same rate, she will be fine.
  3. ok, thank you. I will try that and update soon.
  4. I added the salt to the tank so hopefully that helps. I did notice that her gills appear a purplish-blue color. This means that there is a depletion of oxygen, right? If so, what can I do since there is already a sponge filter in the tank? Also, she is now making a gulping motion with her mouth. That is unfortunately a sign that the gills aren’t working, right? Please say I am wrong.
  5. After dosing prazipro, I noticed that she seems to be stuck at an odd angle, but can still kind of swim. She was like this earlier, but could still bend her body to the other side. Now it seems like it is frozen there. Will that improve?
  6. I need a new test kit, as my old one ran out, so I will order the AC test strips soon. While I was at my LFS, I also picked up some metroplex. I don’t understand the directions though. Do I add it to the food or the water volume, and do I dose it by amount of food or water volume? Thanks. edit: I viewed the thread that @Colu has as his signature and saw this section on flukes. Do I use the recipe with the shot glass or the other one?
  7. No, they only said that prazipro and meds that are added to the food. They also said since she can’t eat, just wait on those.
  8. No rapid breathing, and she hasn’t lost any weight as far as I can see. No bloating either. I tried feeding her earlier, but she didn’t have the strength to get the food, even though she was trying. I was the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. Her gills are a little red, and my LFS thinks it is gill flukes/internal parasites. I am moving her into a 10 gallon quarantine tank tonight, and will dose prazipro, as recommended by my LFS. The main tank parameters are a temp of 78F, ph is 7.5, and all the other fish are fine.
  9. Hi all, I have an angelfish that is about 4 years old(middle aged as far as I know) that has suddenly started laying around the tank and just sitting there instead of exploring like she usually does. She is the only one doing it, and all the other fish appear to be fine. She is in a 36 gallon aquarium with 2 other angels(no aggression), 4 zebra danios, 5-ish guppies, and a whiptail catfish. The filter is a fluval 307, and the ph is about 7.5 since I just did a water change this morning. There is no salt. There are plants in the tank, but they aren’t growing at all for some reason.(probably no nutrients since algae won’t glow with my fluval aquasky on 100%) I hope this isn’t a wasting disease, as the last time I had to deal with it, I couldn’t save the fish. I attached a picture of where she is now, and I apologize for its blurriness. My hand is shaky because I am so worried. Thanks in advance. edit: do I need to feed her? She looks skinnier then usual, but she ate well yesterday and before that. I usually feed that tank about now, so please let me know.
  10. I wouldn’t know, as guppies breed whether I want them to or not. From what I have read, you need a few unrelated specimens to line-cross every so long. It is a complicated process that even has its own college degrees. I know @Guppysnail does some breeding. Maybe your know something I don’t?
  11. So of all places, pet supplies plus had a 1.5 gallon fish bowl, which is big enough for the gumball machine. Plus, its plastic so it will be easy to drill for the filter. Thanks all, and I will link to a new thread when I start building it.
  12. @Beardedbillygoat1975, thank you! I love that bowl!
  13. Thanks! I will be giving that a try soon.
  14. That is a good idea. I will definitely come back to that. I was actually considering making a custom 3D printed UGF that also serves as an input to the canister. While we’re at it, does anyone know where I can find a 2 gallon fish bowl? 1 gallon is just too small, and torture for the fish. I found one on amazon, but I am not paying $30 for a plastic bowl. Petsmart and petco only have one gallons, and my LFS is like me and doesn’t like them for regular use, so they don’t carry them.
  15. I agree completely. I will most likely make a small canister and mount it under the tank. My first sub was aquarium co op, and serpa design was next! 🙃
  16. I think I will make a small canister filter to go under the tank. Remember that I am putting a moderately sized fish bowl for the top of the gumball machine, so HOBs and OSs won’t work.
  17. I am having the same issue with BBA. I have been on the line about buying easy green for the last couple of months, but I think I will do it. Would you say the easy green or easy carbon balances a tank better? That is the main reason I have issues.(and from fluval flourish. Not getting that again)
  18. I am thinking a small DIY canister filter like a PVC pipe or food container is what I will do. I have made them in the past, and they actually work really good. Let me know what you think!
  19. I didn’t think of that. I actually use a 307 on my 30 gallon, and it is by far my favorite filter. The only issue with that is it is a little pricey, and the tubes might look ugly behind the tank. Is there something that is a hint smaller that I can mount under the tank, or maybe have an overflow setup? I am not scared of drilling the tank.
  20. Hi all! I am working on a micro aquarium that will be about 1 gallon when it is complete, but I need some sort of external filter solution that will fit under the tank. I am trying to recreate this gumball machine aquarium, but safer for the fish. After looking at that link, I’m sure most of you will agree with me that the tank is too small for a goldfish and weekly water changes. That is why I want to put a guppy or 2 in it, but I still need more volume to do that. Does anyone know of a small filter that fits under the tank, and adds water volume to the overall system? Thanks! P.S. I know the consequences of overstocking such a small tank, and I am vary aware of the limits this has. Please do not warn me about this, but I am ok with your other opinions.
  21. At least he looks healthy! If I ever get a large pond, a pleco is the first thing thats going in it.
  22. No, but I still won’t do it again 😉
  23. Have you replaced the tyme on pork chops with duckweed yet? I will(maybe) try it soon. I just have to get it to grow first! 😂
  24. As much as a hate to say it, the experiment failed. The water in the test tank had just started to stink, and some simple research proved it to be bacteria. Not a surprise considering that it was wild collected. I’m glad there were no fish in the tank. Thanks for following all, and if I try it again, i’ll use a different method.
