Does it look like a tube? If so it could be the vent. This would be normal.

Yes it does. Few days ago it was much larger though.

    Thank you

  2. ...and another fish.

The original started to struggle so I have decided to end its sufferings.

Last week I have noticed that another Angel has something so removed it from the main tank. I have treated the main tank (X2) and the fish (X2).

I have looked at the fish and can see something that I Don't understand. Other than that the fish looks very well, fins are spread and when it sees me by the glass it doesn't retreat but attack the glass.

Yesterday and today I have given it blood worms (haven't got anything else at the moment) and it ate few but didn't finish.

How should I read all of this?

    Thanks20220509_165954.jpg.65a7649ced311b66dfe0c428b6b73588.jpg20220509_165642.jpg.5c5ee6be37c5d8bf5217ec8c9bdf73fa.jpg20220509_165850.jpg.9698486de4a670b99301ddf89f531c55.jpg

  3. Thanks @Colu

Yesterday morning I have treated the infected fish in a quarantine tank as well as the 400ltr display tank with eSHA NDX. Per the instructions, this evening I have changed 50% of the water in both tanks. I have cleared some worms from the quarantine tank's bottom but the fish's belly is still swollen with some visible worms that are keep on coming out (I guess it is good). Do I clean the bottom tomorrow or do I leave it? Just to clarify, you suggest to treat again in a week, is it for both tanks or just the quarantine with the infected fish? What do I feed the fish?

    Thank you.

  4. Thank you guys, at the mean time I have found this:

"WATERLIFE RESEARCH STERAZIN - parasiticide. STERAZIN is used or the control of gill and body parasites which cause fish to flick when no symptoms are visible to the unaided eye. STERAZIN will also aid the control of internal parasites such as Round Worm, Thread Worm, and Intestinal Worm. In order to destroy the parasites in all stages of their life cycle you will need to use the product on days 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10. STERAZIN may also be used to aid the sterilisation of aquatic plants and is highly biodegradable. Do not use when crustaceans, echinoderms, rays, seawater sharks, pirahna, sturgeon or sterlets and related species are present. In these instances use Waterlife PARAGON. Suitable for seawater, tropical freshwater and coldwater aquaria. Available in: 60ml (5 day course for 180 litres)"

  5. Hi all, I need some help.

One of my Angels has what I think now to be Nematods.

About a week ago I have noticed that its abdomen is swollen so I moved it to a quarantine tank. initially I took it to be Dropsy so treated with salt and Octozin (made by Waterlife), today I have noticed the worms coming out. I have changed 50% of the water and inserted carbon in order to remove the Octozin left overs (as can't mix it with anything else). Tomorrow, I will perform another water change and then will treat with NDX (Made by eSHA). They recommend X1 treatment, then, on day 2 to perform 50% water change.

I will thank you all for more advice and tips? Also, do I treat the main tank? If so how and with what?

    Thank you

  6. @nabokovfan87 Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delay in replying.

I have to agree, the fish that you have mentioned are great, including the Bamboo Shrimps...have them all in my 200Ltr 😀

I have a video showing the Hillstream Loches spawning but unfortunately it won't download.

    Thanks again

  7. Sooooooo, after asking for your advice, deliberating, checking and reading the decision was to have a Lake Tanganyika biotope. Shell Dwellers (thank you @Flumpwessel), Tanganyika Sardines (Cyprichromis Leptosoma) and Fairy Cichlid (Lamprologus brichardi).

Thanks again to all your help.

  8. Thank you for coming back.

I believe that O2 is ok as there is an air stone running on top of the filter, also the tank is heavily planted. Other then that the dead fish appeared before I have added the medication. I also think that lack of oxygen would effect most/all fish in the same way. So, no, I don't think that this is the problem and I don't want to start treating without knowing what is the problem. If bad turns to worse and there won't be a good suggestion I will have to do the "Trio".

  9. Hello all.

I hope that one of you might be able to help.

2 – 2.5 months ago I bought 2 pairs of Melanotaenia Parkinsoni, 3 weeks ago the 2 males died with few days in between them, no external signs could be detected. I took it as bad luck, talked with the shop and bought another 3. Within 4 days one of them started showing signs of ‘something is not right’, it was at the top of the tank with its gill covers wide open, no other signs. I took it back to the shop, they suspected gill flukes and treated it, yet the fish died 3 days latter. They have examened the gills but the gills looked ok. I have consulted the shop and it was suggested to treat my tank for flukes, which I did. During this time (started 4 days ago) another Parkinsoni started to keep itself to itself and today we found it dead, so now I am left with 2 males and 2 females. I have many other Rainbows in the tank and none of them display any issues, also all the Parkinsoni I bought are old stock that the LFS have since December.

Today I tested the water and have carried a 50% water change. The parameters are:
    NH3 – 0; N02 – 0; PH – 8; KH – 8/9; GH – 17; NO3 – 25; PO3/4 – 5; Temp – 25C/77F.
The tank is 400Ltr/106Gl and the fish are fed with frozen and dry food including Repashy Green.

    Thank you.

  10. @Biotope Biologistthanks for the photo, there is one thing that I don't understand with fish. You say that the fish max at 4cm but @1moretanksays that his are 3" - 6".

I bought Indian Glass Fish (Parambassis ranga). The information that I found is that they grow to 6cm, however, mine are still the same size as bought 4-5 months ago, 1cm long. Don't fish have internet connection?

@1moretank I have looked at the Panda Gara but according to the info they need 120cm long tank, mine is only 70cm.

Also, apologies for the late reply, I had problems connecting to the forum, all my attempts were rejected.

    Thanks again for your time.

Serpa has a few blackwater tanks on his youtube channel if that gets the creative juices flowing. For his large one he has a link to an underwater light that helps create the effect of spots of sunlight peaking through.

I love Amazon style setups they can be really beautiful with lots of organics and stained water it feels like you are peaking into a secret world. I’d highly recommend banjo cats if you go that route. They only eat insects and are so fun to see in the leaf litter, same with corydoras. Maybe try and sell her on the corydoras 🥰

    Thank you.

Don't know Banjo Cats but I am sure that Google will help.

We have Adolphi, Agassisi and Sterbi about 15 all together as some died. The vsmaller size of the tank make it a bit of a challenge.

I quite fancy shell dwellers as something different at the moment.

Their behaviour should be fairly different to what you have. No experience though just my b current whim

Do you mean snails or crabs? Honestly, both are not my cup of tea. Currently I have Red Cherry, Amano, Armoured and Bamboo shrimps in 2 of the tanks. The Armoured and Bamboo hide at the back among the plants and are very difficult to see.

With the right lighting, tannin tanks can look beautiful, and be spouse-friendly.

Thanks for the encouragement. By right lightning do you mean shimmering light? I was given for a trial a light that claims to do it.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

  13. Today I have received the new (tank #3) that will replace the Nano tank. The tank is a 125Ltr (~32gl.) and dimensions of 70cmX36cmX50cm (29.5"X14"X20"), so far so good. The problem is that I am not closed on the fish. I have another 2 tanks, a 400ltr (104gl) and 200ltr (52gl). The 400ltr tank is populated with large rainbow fish, 3 angles 2 Armored shrimps and corys. The 200ltr is mixed, small and medium rainbow, some tetra silver tips, rasbora, green neons, cherry and bamboo shrimps.

The initial thought was to have black water with lots of cardinals rummy nose and apistos but the Mrs. is not very happy about it, mainly because of the browny water. Obviously I can have clear water but can also have other fish and this is the question. What fish can be kept in there that will give different feel to the other two? My water is PH 8, KH 12 and GH 19. I mix them with IO water to reduce hardness.

    Thanks

I use this. I put it in the front left corner and hold it at the bottom at a slight angle. I use the net to “chase”. The fish to that corner and lift the strainer straight up underneaths them. Works like a charm for me catch most of the group on the first go

    😬

You are more clever than me🤐.. I used the same idea but used a large face covering (against midgets) net and inserted a safety wire around to keep the shape. 😃
