This might sound horrible, but I would just try it with a small group. The only thing I would worry about is that the tub would completely freeze into a block of ice. I don’t think that is an issue with a couple of sponge filters constantly running though.

Any future generations produced would be much more cold tolerant than the previous one. I don’t have any experience with killifish so I don’t know how hardy they are. I know shiners have a rep of being hardy though.

Puffer on the most part seem to be killers, but they are still a cool animal and pet. Sorry to hear you’ve lost some other fish though.

I used 1/4” I believe. I thought it would be thick enough to not bow but it did. The ribbing sounds like a brilliant idea to me. Could probably go much thinner then.

I’ve used them before with success. Only downside is that they start to bow. If it is cut symmetrically you can just flip it over.

He’s definitely an oranda. The tail could grow longer as he ages and the “split” could end up being more pronounced. If not “goldfish purists” would just consider it a flaw in the oranda. You have a pretty fish no matter what anyone else says.

It’s personal preference really. Tanks do well with or without them. If you really don’t like snails, then it’s best to rid them as fast as you can.

Honestly, keeping fancy goldfish can be quite difficult sometimes. Sounds like you are doing everything you can for Charlie. That’s pretty much all you can do. You can do everything “right,” but sometimes fancy goldfish just fall apart health wise. Good luck to you and Charlie. She is very cute.

Sorry to hear about the snail loss. That really does suck. Sounds like you had a busy couple of days getting the tank back in order.

Isn’t it weird how testing water is almost the last thing we think of?

I like the gif of the shrimp and Pagoda side by side. These snails are quite large or at least larger than I was picturing them. Their shell is so gosh darn cool too. It’s like a horned nerite and a malaysian trumpet had a giant baby or something. Lol.

I wasn’t that interested in plants at first either. It definitely isn’t the end all be all. I’ve seen some absolute beautiful scapes made from just substrate, rocks, and driftwood. They were equally beautiful to planted tanks in my eyes.

In fact @Daniel has some pictures of his discus tank that I completely envy. It looks professionally aquascaped to me. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t see any plants in it. Maybe there are a few hidden, I don’t know.
