  1. Anywhere you buy a fish the seller will be making a sale and theoretically that sale will "encourage" the company to continue their practices so I would say you may as well support someone you think has good practices and quality fish.

You could check out aqua huna if you want a betta splendens, They have their betta cam so you can get an idea of the coloration and they come recommended by the Coop

  2. I just wanted to share nature winning. This plant ("broadleaf arrowhead" I believe) has been a champion. I got it for a pond experiment and it ended up struggling. When I tore down the "pond" I put one little bulb (all that was left) of it in some grow media on my fish tank but it never did much there. I ended up tossing the media into my second tote-pond and that spring, to my surprise, leaves sprouted in two arias where a shoot had been sent. They all died over winter and the top water froze briefly so, please imagine my surprise when I find a half dozen shoots breaking the surface in arias where It seems to have spread.

TLDR; If you want a pond plant get a broadleaf arrow head, they are apparently "bullet proof"

I do like the mesh bottom since its that much more water flow and i dont need to worry about temp fluctuations or water quality quite as much as other methods. They other bonus is any food the fry dont eat generally falls through. They get a little gunky at 7 days or so and i siphon the mesh with an airline tube.

I have the box in a 50 gallon. I normally feed the box standard food this is extreme flake, they also have done repashy in the box and live baby brine.

Great to know most fry foods don't fall through. I never thought about how beneficial flake food could be in this instance.

  4. I have raised them in a specimen container but I don't see why what you have would be a problem. I put some Christmas moss in with them and fed them powdered repashy and live baby brine (now I see a potential problem with the mesh...). I am not sure if they were eating BBS right away but within... a week? I was seeing golden brine bellies. I also ended up putting in repashy blocks, maybe you could put a smaller container in there and put the food in the container?

  5. I didn't like java moss, I like Christmas moss. I found it can be difficult to clean and can be weird to try and place if it is not affixed to something, like wood. I have a 20 long almost full of Christmas moss that has been growing for over a year and don.t really know what to do with it all... I am planning on using some for a new shrimp tank.

  6. I definitely think it is wise to keep it members only, I think it would be a worthwhile system to pay for and could limit "bad actors". I am not a member (I quit you tube a few years back) but would join for the chance at getting fish from forum members I have seen their breeding journeys and trust (thinking of Mountian puffer keeper, Whitecloud dynasty, and Fish Folk to name a few). That seem especially valuable to me.

I'm specifically thinking of certain Betta Imbellis fry... 😉

How many outlets do those have? And why aren’t they safe for aquariums? Would it be safe if it was on the ground but not beside the aquarium itself?

How many outlets varies, I have seen some with three plug-ins then you have those like Cory linked with 12. The "safe for aquariums" has to do with protection against shock if it gets water on it. You can get a strip that has GFCI as apart of it (as Brian mentioned) or a GFCI outlet/circuit (Cory). Off the ground is in case water gets on the floor, you wouldn't have an outlet sitting in water (Cory's setup once again).

Here is an example of my set-up underneath the tank (The outlet is mounted sideways with the cords bundled together away from the wall outlet) not the best... but likely not the worst.

  8. I am planning to replace my tote pond with a rectangular partial inground pond (using liner). My thought was to have the out flow and inflow arias more shallow and the middle section to be deeper. The hope was to have the goldfish inhabit the deep section the the white clouds live in the shallow in and out flows, I would have tall rocks restricting access for the goldfish but allowing the white clouds to maneuver in and out for safety.
