  1. Beginning with Thanksgiving every year, I renew my search for a song that I associate with Christmas. For some reason I only remember the first line and the repeating refrain.   I no longer have the album, artist, title or even all of the lyrics.   My version was done by a solo male artist.  I’ve tried Rod McKuen and Barry McGuire without success.  I’ve tried using various combinations on some of the lyrics sites, but if you have ever used them, you know how useless they can be.

Does any of this look familiar?

I’ll bring you berries, sweet cherries and rum if you walk with me, walk for a while

chorus:  Come if you’ll only be my company.  Walk with me, walk for a while

Good thing s will come for the good month or more in the time of the wondering (wandering?) child.

    ???

Final chorus:  Come if you’ll only be my company.  Walk with me, walk for a while

Good thing s will come for the good month or more, in the time of the wondering (wandering?) child

in the time of the wondering

                                                                                                             time of the wondering

Very interesting! Personally, I get tired of Christmas music very very fast (sorry in advance to the Christmas people out there lmao), I usually listen to punk, grunge, alternative and other rock stuff (occasional Indie/chillwave rock). I usually listen to Mr. Brightside (The Killers), Cute without the E (Taking Back Sunday) and other various artists like The Strokes, Gorillaz, Nirvana, etc.

With the exception of Nirvana, I don't think I'm familiar with any of those groups.  Christmas music is the only "best by" date that I observe.  It may be the only genre that has a season.  I prefer listening to traditional carols done more or less traditionally but there is room for most of the variations.

  3. I don't have the scraper attachment, so I have no idea if that is a gimmick. I have my doubts, so I did not order one.  My first algae remover was attached to a long string.  That was a good thing because the magnets weren't very good, and the scraper would sink.  Anything that keeps my arm dry and me off of the ladder.  The only problem that I've experienced:  The felt on the dry side came loose, and I ended up scraping the adhesive off the glass.

  4. Lets hear it for Senior Citizen Children at Heart!

A Mammoth Christmas.   Prancer: "My family raised me to be kind to strangers, and there is nobody stranger than you guys!"  Sid is so ugly he's cute, but the cameo appearances by Scrat make it for me.

I just cut off all the dead leafs, going to do a water change and then put in root tabs. Hopefully overtime i start to see growth

I think I see a UGF, so I'm not sure how often.  How to properly use root tabs with a UGF is a question I still ask myself.  I would have started with one per sword.  Either way, I'm sure your swords weren't that big in March so you could also bump up the All in One.  It looks like the Anubia is also stressing.  @Seattle_Aquarist may be able to help.

    Love the Walker btw.

my glass is already scratched 😞 and algae is still there. even holding it flat doesnt stop the scratching. i KNOW my aquarium is glass but this is ridiculous. if i use a slicing motion it will scratch terribly; not sure i understand what youre suggesting?

Holding the entire cutting edge flat against the the glass should prevent scratching.  If you apply uneven pressure, or if one corner of the blade is raised, even a little bit, the opposite corner will dig in and scratch/gouge the glass.

By slicing, I am suggesting that instead of a strictly vertical up and down motion, using an arching or slicing motion like a knife.  Any horizontal movement requires a much lighter touch.  If you are using the thick single edged blades common to box knives and the like, I would suggest rounding off the corners if you can.  I use both, but my go to scraper uses the thin flexible blades used in the old fashioned safety razors, so that might be why it doesn't work for you.

While I really like the Mag Float, it does struggle a bit with the hard green spot algae.  I have also used the green scrubbing pads, but prefer the white "buffing" version if you can find them.  They are softer and require a little more effort; against the white pad, it is really easy to see the algae.   I hope this helps.

I am trying to figure out what is causing this, levels are good. Some of the leaves on my Amazon swords are a nice green, others  brown, holes, stringy and ghostly. They have been thriving since March of this year, been going backwards the last month. Weekly water changes. Only change was added a piece of driftwood 3-5" for my clown plecos a few months ago and cholla wood thin long piece for my shrimp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A whole tank view will be helpful.  First, you can cut the damaged leaves off.  They are done.  Are you using an all in one fertilizer, or root tabs?  I would suggest adding root tabs if you aren't currently using them.   Cutting the damaged leaves will cause the plant to put its efforts into new growth.

As for anubias rot, I've noticed it usually happens with new plants or new cuttings. I read somewhere to use the sharpest blade I can to make cleaner cuts. Since I started using the exacto knife I've not seen it as much.

A sharp blade slices; a dull blade crushes.  The cleaner the cut, the less opportunity for disease to take hold.  This was the first advice I was given when I first began pruning grape vines in the local vineyard.

Are these what you do or are they something else? They sound delicious!

I'll take this as a sign!  After leaving here yesterday, I was actually looking to fix a coffee cake recipe. (my icing tastes gritty)  when I chanced upon a  Cherry Cheese Danish that looks like yours on YT.  I will also use the premade Puff Pastry.

  10. TBMK, Rhizomes are the stem of the plant; leaves on the top and roots on the bottom.  Java Fern are epiphytes. They are not strictly root feeders, and the rhizome requires exposure to oxygenated water, nutrients, and light.  While they take some nourishment from the roots, the roots mainly serve to anchor the plant.  Burying the rhizome will stress the plant, and eventually kill it.

Everyone's experience varies. I have decent amount of anubias in various tanks and I personally never seen rot spread to other plants, but maybe I'm just lucky so far. I trim off the rotting matter with an exacto knife and keep only healthy green rhizomes. Both my nanas and nana petites really bounced back surprisingly fast. Now my anubias coffeefolia is another story, after a year it's just as small as my nana petite. It's a tough thing to deal with anubias because they're slow growers. It frustrates me when I accidentally break one when cleaning lol

Breaking one doesn't frustrate me as much as the lack of any growth.  I've intentionally cut my first Anubia rhizome twice.  There is something lodged in the Crypts, that looks like Anubia, so it may have been accidently divided two more times.  The parent plant also seems to go dormant for months or even a year at a time.  The youngest cutting is over six inches tall, while the parent plant and the first cutting remains the size of a quarter.

  12. I feel your pain.  The mag float is great for most algae.  I love the extra strong magnets, but the floating feature makes the deal. You can get a model with an algae scraper which I have not tried.  I also have that problem with algae and you can wear it down with the mag float but the razor blade is much faster.

While it is customary to use the blade like a paint scraper, I found that using a slicing motion can sometimes get better results.   Being careful to keep the blade flat against the glass, will help you avoid scratches.

Carolina Biological Supply used to carry them.

"...and do not expect it to last for an extended period—even with good care."  Well, at least they are honest about it!

Information on sponge care seems to be a little sparse, so for the moment, I'll keep my $25.  Having only discovered the existence of Bryozoans last year, it's fascinating to learn what other tiny animals grow beneath the surface.

I have these in several of the tanks in my fishroom. I can't stand them. I wish I knew what caused them.

Same question, different reason!  I don't live near a clean lake or stream, How do I get one?

I never master using a peel, 1/2 the pepperoni end up in flames on the bottom of the oven.

I use an aluminum pizza pan which I place on top of the hot stone.  After a few minutes when the crust starts to cook, I slide the pizza off the pan on to the stone. When done, I just remove the stone with the pizza on it, it will continue to cook the crust.

A cookie sheet peel also resulted in flying pepperoni for me.  My two work arounds for the unpeeled, is the skillet pizza, and actually laying the crust on the hot stone before adding ingredients.   I serve on the stone to keep the pizza hot.

@Shadow Had life taken a different direction, I would have gladly been a Chef/Baker.  Your pictures definitely got my sugar addiction going!  Now that I have the time, there aren't enough people around to eat the product.

Try pizzamaking.com , here one for New York style pizza. When I make them, I make 20 ounce dough balls which is perfect for my pans size. Most of the recipes there will say how much for one pizza.

For cold rising in the refrigerator, I use 1/2 sheet commercial pans with a plastic cover. Letting the dough slowly ferment a few days in the fridge improves the flavor for all breads.

For myself, I learn how to bake in a restaurant and donut shop. I don't have the patience to knead dough by hand. The pizza dough recipe I use says knead the dough for a full 15 minutes, that's a long time.

I even made a proofing box using PVC sheets.

I've never make it for the whole 15 minutes.  My latest endeavor was making a poolish pizza.  It was an improvement, but still not right.  The starter actually worked but but the results didn't carry over to the rest of the crust.    You mentioned cold rising for a few days, so now I'm going to have to learn a new level of  patience. ...and buy a peel.

  17. I was searching the net for a recipe that was both idiot proof and sized for making a single pizza.  I got side tracked and began watching a video describing various types of starters including a natural sourdough.  You make it the usual way,  but the starter has to find its own yeast spores.  I was wondering if anyone has done this.

Our “hiccup crow” that we feed in our backyard followed me 19 miles to work! Turn the volume up and you will see why he is hiccup crow. And he is soaking wet in the rain!

A few months ago another crow followed my husband to work, about the same distance.

I've never managed to feed the crows around me.  They won't come to the ground.  The very tip of the fir tree in my yard is as close as they get.  While they won't land, If I am looking out the window around sunrise, I will see squadrons of crows, 25 or more passing overhead.   There might be more, or less somedays, but I'm not willing to get out of bed to count them.

I have a buddy who was making all sorts of bread with a bread machine, which is perfectly fine.

The wife of one of my buddies is constantly telling us about the wonderful bread he makes.  I feel obligated to remind her that the bread machine made the bread!

I need to use that heat twice so most of my baking is also seasonal.  I love sourdough, but keeping a starter alive has always been a problem, so I usually settle for a quick beer bread. One bottle for the bread and one for me!

  20. Free shipping and minimum order amounts are problematic for a lot of us, but good for the LFS and Amazon.   USPS service for me is always hit or miss, but the Coop packages have never taken more than 4 days getting to me in Ohio.  Hopefully that won't change too much.  I don’t have a problem paying shipping when better products and customer service is required.

Shipping waste and shipping cost; also known as shipping and handling go hand in hand. Put simply, which is more efficient: 4 quarters in your pocket or 100 pennies?

I obviously don’t know the details, but assume that 20 minutes is required to: print, pull, package, label, and sort one $12.00 plant order.  Adding two plants and a sponge filter might add 10 minutes, but they will ship in the same box. My shipping cost for that order will increase by pennies.  In addition to using fewer boxes, and associated materials, I will move more orders every day.  This leaves more floor space for sellable inventory.  Keeping my cost down keeps your cost down, and puts less shipping waste in the landfill.
