  1. So I have a female platy that just gave birth to fry a few days ago and noticed that her poop was blue. I feed my fish Aqueon tropical flakes and frozen brine shrimp. Neither of which is blue. She’s acting like normal but is just pooping neon blue. Should I be concerned about this?
  2. To begin with this is my first time handling with new fry. I didn’t know my platy was pregnant because she always looked fat. I had her for about 7 months and I never saw any fry. Just today I look into the tank and see this very tiny fry in the corner of my tank hiding behind my snail. And I looked in the gravel and see maybe like 3 other fry who look stuck or dead. I was able to safely get one out who is alive but I can’t seem to find him now. I don’t have anything to put these little guys in. I was able to safely get one out by putting it into a tuber ware bowl. I don’t know how to get any of the other fish out of the gravel or where I should put them. What I thought to do (just for today/tonight) is to put them in a big bowl with a air stone while i get a fry box from Amazon (if you have an idea if something that will work better please tell me). I’m so excited to watch these fry grow but will really need some help 😅.Sorry about the photos I know it hard to see them.
  3. I have also checked multiple time to make sure it was still alive.
  4. So I recently got a blue mystery snail and he hasn’t moved for the last 4 days. He was moving the first and second day I got him and then just stopped. There is plenty of algae for him to eat and the temperature is 78°. The water parameters are; Nitrate 5 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Cl2 0 GH 25 Alkalinity 80 KH 120 PH 8.0 I put my lights on everyday from around 6-9.
  5. Just buy the fish medicine. I can’t tell you how many times one of my fish had a disease or injury and it was of course at like 11 pm at night. It would also always be right after I get back from the pet store where they would have the medicine and I would think to myself “Do you really need that medicine?” Yes Yes I would. When I was getting my fish to put in to my cycled tank he told be to GET THE FISH MEDICINE. But I had to save myself $50. I have lost about 5 guppies and 2 platies over a course of a year because I wanted to save money. I know better now.
  6. It’s a 15 gallon tank so I used 3 tablespoons. Ammonia 0 Nitrate 5 Nitrite 0 Cl2 0 gh 75 Alkalinity 120 kh 80 ph 7.6
  7. This might be my bad. I recently transferred my fish into a new tank because my old one was leaking. In my old tank I had a little cave with plastic parts on it. This isn’t the first time my blue guppy hurt its tail. He had split his tail and I was pretty sure it was because of some sharp plastic on the cave. My dad visited my place a week ago to transfer everything (knows nothing about fish keeping) and insisted on putting the cave back in and when I said that he shouldn’t he got it out anyways and put it in the tank. He meant well thinking that the fish will have a cave to hide in but this could have caused this injury. I was going to a pet store tomorrow to get a new cave so I just left the old one in there not thinking much of it. Do you think this could have been the problem?
  8. My tank only has a few small plants. I added the salt. I have this medicine that says it treats fin rot but I don’t know if there’s a better one and the one I have is crap.
  9. I was just about to turn off my aquarium light when I saw my blue guppy’s tail bleeding. This never happened before and I never saw any of my fish bulling each other. I have 3 guppies, 3 platies, and a snail. Do you think it’s because of a attack or fin rot?
  10. I found out my aquarium thermometer was showing 10° lower than the actual temperature. 😰 I then turned off the heaters for the water temp to go back to normal. I do have an air stone.
  11. I am not sure what is wrong with my tank. I just transferred everything from my previous tank yesterday because my old tank was leaking. The only thing I changed was the gravel. I put in the same tank water, same decorations, same filter, and same water pump. My tank water is cloudy and I think this may be because of a bacterial bloom or the new gravel. My water perimeters are : nitrate 0 , nitrite 0, ammonia 0, cl2 0, gh 25, ph 7.6, alkalinity 80, and carbonate 80. I don’t know if it’s my heaters but I have 2 heaters for my 15 gallon tank on max temperature but it can’t heat up the water. My water right now is 69.2°f. I have 3 guppies, 3 platies, and one nerite snail. 2 platies and 2 guppies are at the surface gasping for air and it’s not because of oxygen, ammonia, nitrite. I put in quick start bacteria just in case of something with ammonia. Please help me
  12. So my tank was leaking so I needed to get a new one. I put in the same filter and decorations but changed the gravel. After I transferred the water my tank was really dirty. I had washed out the gravel before putting the water in but that was not enough. I have my fish in a big bowl with a lid on top while I was transferring everything. My water parameters are the exact same as they were in my other tank before I moved everything. I have to leave soon and was wondering if it would be safe for my 3 guppies, 3 Platies, and one nerite snail to go into the murky tank water or if I should leave them in the bowl. I also have cats and I’m scared that they would do something to them in the bowl. I am leaving for a hour and a half.
  13. I just got a nerite snail from petco 2 days ago after seeing his shell was chipped so I wanted to help him. He seems to be making a slow escape from my tank 😂. I have a hang off the back filter where he is making his grand escape. I was wondering if I should just let him climb up it or how I can safely move him elsewhere. I know nerite snails can live above water for a week or two but I would be worried he will climb out of the tank and possibly meet one of my cats who would want to bat him around. Also I’ve read putting egg shells in a fish tank would help with the repair of the snails shell. Is this true and how else can I help this little snail.
  14. So I have a 15 gallon Fluval Flex tank and it is leaking very slowly. It almost set my house on fire because water got into the outlet. I’m not sure why it’s leaking (cracks, hole, etc) but I don’t want to give up this hobby. Should I just buy a new fish tank altogether and transfer the water, filter, and gravel to the new tank or try to fix the one I have. My fish are not in danger for now but I want to fix this asap.
  15. Today I noticed a dark grey dot on my male guppy. I’m not sure what it is or how to treat it. Does anyone know what this is? I messed with the effects of the photos so it would be easier to see the dot so if you see the redness at the top of the fish it is not an injury. This guppy has had two red strips near the top of his body ever since he was born.
  16. Probably not. I got them from pet smart because that’s the only place close to my house to buy fish. I have a really good fish store I love going to but it’s 45 minutes away. Do you recommend buying fish online? I HATE Petsmart after my last visit. I saw around 8 dead fish and at least 10 fish needed immediate help. One tank did not have the oxygen pump working and so all the poor fish were just at the top gasping for air. Almost 75% of the bettas their ether had swim bladder disease or dropsy. The tanks are always overcrowed full of pregnant females. I kind of feel bad for the workers to because they have no clue of what they are doing. But at the same time they should have a clue of what to do. I wanted to see if petsmart had any guppies but after seeing a fish literally die and get sucked up to the filter I left.
  17. I quarantined my fish before putting them in the tank. GH is at 150 Nitrate 3 Nitrite 0 Cl2 0 Alkalinity 80 KH 120 pH 7.6. They haven’t really been swimming at all so just now I took the cave out of the tank and saw they were swimming fine. I have been feeding them Fluval Bug Bites and I have also tried TetraMin Tropical Flakes. I have a question about the crushed coral. I bought some and I’m not sure if I should change out all the substrate and then put in the crushed coral as the new substrate or if I can just put in a certain amount of it on top of the gravel I have.
  18. I have a 15 gallon tank with 3 guppies and 3 platies. I feed them twice a day about 1/32 of a teaspoon per feeding. I have a rock cave where my fish can go into. Two of my platies never come out of the cave. When I watch my my fish eat all my guppies plus the one Platy race up to the surface of the water and gobble up the food but my other two platies stay in the cave and don’t come out. The other fish eat up all the food. I have tried two types of flakes, freeze dried brine shrimp, and green peas but they won’t move out of the cave. I’ve removed the cave on Monday to see if the platies would eat but they just stayed at the bottom corner of my tank. One Tuesday I put the cave back in. I’ve had the fish for over 20 weeks and they didn’t start this habit and until 2 weeks ago. On the first week they stayed in the cave most of the time but would rush up to me for feeding time. This week they haven’t been eating at all. They look healthy and don’t seem to have anything wrong. One of the hiding platies is a female that I’m 85% sure is pregnant. She is bigger than the other two male platies but isn’t growing anymore. She has been pregnant for 6 weeks and hasn’t dropped any fry. Please help This is a portion of food I give twice a day
  19. I’m so sorry to hear that. I had the same thing happen to my community tank when I first got it. This is most likely due to ammonia positioning. I agree with Boulder_Betta and BrettD to not do anything to the filter cartridge unless absolutely necessary. I fixed my tank by putting in beneficial bacteria, daily tests, and 10–15 percent daily water changes until the ammonia and nitrite stay at a constant 0. I would recommend you to do the same.
  20. I think that was the case because once I buy my guppy back into the tank closely watching it, he was up in the corner not acting or looking like he usually does. Sadly he did pass away last night. His tail looked all beat up with little tears staring at the end of the tail.
