    Body Rot

Here’s a Betta I’ve had for around 1 year now. This will be his third and most intense case so far with me. He lives in a 20 gallon long by himself thats heavily planted. Parameters have always been perfect but he still seems to get fin rot every now and than. his parameters are PH- 7.0 Ammonia- maybe 2 ish ppm my label for this one is a little damaged nitrite is barely 10 ppm Nitrate is around 10. temperature- 79 His diet throughout the week is Xtreme betta pellets, hikari betta pellets, bug bite betta pellet and frozen or freeze dried blood ones once a week and every other week a fasting day to just let his digestive system rest. His temperatures never fluctuate, and I’m not really sure why he could be getting sick so often. I wonder if it’s just bad genes. I got him from a Petco down the road and he barely had any fins in the first place because his fin rot was so bad there. I have Maracyn however it expired 3 months ago, not sure if I should just dose with salt until I can get my hands on new Meds?
  2. I have a freshly aquscaped tank with a bunch of new plants that I just established. I’ve been dosing a lot more Easy Green and Easy Iron than recomended and I’m noticing my fish are acting a lot more skittish and not eating their food. Would the fertilizer have anything to do with it or should I move on down to the disease column?? it’s a 20 gallon and I’ve been dosing maybe double the recommended dosing.
  3. Good news, I went to the store to return it and the clerk person told me it had a separate part that you needed to buy to control the temp, without it it just goes to the highest setting 🤦‍♀️ thanks for your help everyone!!
  4. Is 84 too hot for a betta? I got a new heater for a 20 gallon I’m setting up for my betta who’s currently in a 5 gallons and it won’t go any lower than 84 😭😢

  6. I think I’m gonna put her in her own tank for right now. Nobody else is looking affected at all. She is also refusing food. Temp is at 83 Fahrenheit. Let me know if that’s too high, I was thinking if there was any bacteria or parasites that the higher water temp would help aid in treatment.
  7. @nabokovfan87 I have been keeping up with the treatment and she’s only getting worse. Here’s a picture of her now. I’m not sure if I should euthanize or not.
  8. I have a Swordtail pair in a 20 gallon with a few of their fry. The mom is currently pregnant again but I’m concerned with her behavior. She hasn’t been eating much and usually just lays on the bottom of the tank. I tried to get a video of how she swims but she hides. She kind of wobbles from side to side like shimmying but her parameters are perfect so I’m not sure why she is swimming in that way. I have the substrate as Crushed coral and wonder shells in there as well, as well as some baking soda. I always dechlorinate the water during water changes. I added some salt because I did see some fungal infections on the fry’s fins but again normally the shimmying is because the water parameters aren’t hard enough. So I’m not sure what’s up. The male is a little annoying so I did move him. But she still hides.
  9. Thanks! I will try that.
  10. I’m also noticing some stringy poop from the female? Some parts are translucent. The two are in a 20 gallon and just had 5 Tablespoons of salt added. What else should I consider for treatment if this could be parasites as well?
  11. Scratch that, I believe he’s refusing fan food and I haven’t seen him engage in eating at yet since I got him a couple days ago and he’s just now starting to isolate with the female swordtail
  12. Noticed a white consistency on my swordtails mouth. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. Ph 7.9 No ammonia no nitrite and a very small amount of nitrate. Kh was measured a couple days ago but looked good. Gh 230 ish Sorry the pictures are poor quality I had to zoom in because he wouldn’t come closer. Aside from the substance on his mouth he is behaving completely normal. No physical signs or abnormal swimming patterns.
  13. His diet consists of algae waters every day, Frozen blood worms Once a week, and zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, and broccoli mixed in throughout the week. I believe he’s a common Pleco. When I rescued him the owner didn’t know what he was exactly. water parameters, are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and it looks like a little less than .5 PPM for the nitrates @Colu. His normal color pattern was all black originally. He’s been hiding a lot more than usual and His fins are all clamped, but every now and than he would keep them up and I haven’t seen that in a few days. They just look loose and more limp than usual. He has the white patterns on his belly too. He still eats but not nearly as much as he was before, there’s left over food in his tank. I also doubt this could play a role in his recent behavior but I added chemical hang on back filter with his sponge filter to help with the bio lode. Not sure if that could be a factor in some weird way.
  14. I’ve had this Pleco since September. He’s been changing colors, having white patches all over his head and body. I don’t think it’s camouflage I noticed what could be a scrape on his skin which is probably the reasoning for his color changing due to stress. Should I do salt dips of some sort. He also was extremely malnourished when I got him, and is starting to look a little thin again. Should I consider internal parasites. I haven’t owned a Pleco before, I just want to make sure he gets the care he needs! *the color changing is very recent
