  1. Thats right folks! Aquarium Co-Op finally ships to canada! For us canadians, im jumping up and down with excitement. However a signficant portion of the website cannot be shipped to canada for border control reasons (food, electronics, plants). I was mostly bummed out hearing about the electronics not being able to get shipped, but its understandable. Im hoping they can work something out with the border sometime to allow some of these items to cross.

However its time to start my first co-op order!!!

I have already recieved the towel, root tabs, and murphy hat through the CARE Forum care package i received last march.

What are your must haves that the co-op offers that is possible to ship to canada.

    Heres what my cart includes:

  2. That sounds like an awesome tank!

I use the flourite substrate in my shrimp tank. The plants grow wonderfully with it, and to be honest its probably my favorite substrate on the market. I just dont like how messy it can be. I'm currently using some of the marineland eco complete, in the short span of a few weeks the plants have been growin nicely and theres no mess. Both are inert substrates

For the filter I would just use any old sponge filter. The aquarium co-op sponge filters would work. Probably the medium or large would be fine for a 29 gallon. I'm currently using their nano sponge filter on my 20gallon long, works fine.

  3. Its been a little bit since i last updated this thread.

I purhcased some limia the other week. They arrived happy and healthy, and not a single one has passed. yayyy. Theres also a few pregnant females. so thats a second yayyy.

I put these guys in the 20 gallon long that house the platys. The platys have moved up to the 40 breeder with the mollys. I also have just recentley purchased some xtreme community crave. Its hard to locate some of the xtreme foods in canada, but a popular big box pet stores carries them, a little expensive but none the less worth it. These limia are impossible to take pictures of. Im not a fan with how the plants have grown, nor the tannins so when i return from my summer trip a rescape will defentley be happening.

Waldo has been doing great, and so have the plants!

I am leaving on June 28th, and will be gone for most of the summer. I will be working at a summer bible camp, and will only be home for one week. So to plan for this, i bought ice cube trays. All though that may sound a little weird, i have a great idea. Every square in the tray resembles one portion of feeding. I will portion out the feeding prior to leaving, so that the family member feeding the fish will just know that one square = 1 feeding. This way I dont need to worry about over feeding for a extended period of times.  I used to use little plastic shot glasses for this, but i felt like because im away for so long i need to use something that can carry more feedings. I will be home on some weekends where i can do waterchanges if neccesarry. Right now all of my aquariums are only getting top offs whenever needed which is about once every 3-4 weeks.

  4. I will be away for most of the summer (7 weeks), all though ill be home on some weekends. The weeks I'm not home I need something/ someone to feed my fish. I was planning on purchasing an autofeeder. I can come home some weekends and do waterchanges/ other needed matneince.

So whats your reccemandation for an autofeeder? I live in canada, so discluding the co-op feeder.

  5. I feed my betta a variety of food.

I've found his favorite have been...

My last betta also seemed to have those three as his favorites. I also feed the New Life Spectrum betta pellets, and the NorthFin Betta Pellets

The newlife spectrum pellets are a little big so i find that my betta always has a little trouble chewing them, but none the less he seems to enjoy them.

  6. I ordered some limia finally! Today i got the notification that they were shipped out. Usually when I buy livestock its next day air, and arrived on the tuesday or the next day after it ships.

However according to the seller UPS has been acting up so they have switched  temporarily to the Canadian Postal Service. 2-3 Day Shipping. Its supposed to arive on Thursday. Thats at least 2 days in a small bag, but probably more like 3 days.

Should I be nervous? The seller does have 100% live arrive gaurentee so ill get my money back if a DOA does happened.

  7. Waldo the betta has arrived! Hes very happy and healthy looking.

Hes been expoloring around his tank, and has gotten stuck in the corners of the tanks a few times. He seems to like swimming in and out of the bubbels coming from the sponge filter. Hes said hello to all of his fellow snail residents. He doesnt seem to mind them. I didn't realize how pretty he is from the pictures on their site... but i love his fluorescent blue. The new light arrived too. It defentley makes the red in the tank pop...im a fan.

  8. I am about to purchase some limia! Its a fish ive struggeled to locate for the past year. Its hard to find sellers that ship to canada.

So any tips before I complete this purchase?

    I have a few options...

    1) They can go be housed in my 20long. It doesnt have a lid, I read somewhere that they are jumpers. Is this true? My platys would probably have to move to the 40 breeder and live with the mollys. Mollys wouldnt breed with platys, correct? Eventually I would rehome the platys.

    2) They can go in the 40 breeder that does have a lid and live with the mollys. I read that Goliad fish farms have bred mollys and limia together so maybe this isnt the best option as i just want limia fry, and just want molly fry. No in between

Any tips for breeding? or water parameters?

Select aquatics had a good care sheet that was helpful.

  10. Lots of exciting things happening!
My plants arrived last week. I setup the tank on thursday , and have been letting it run since. Because i have snails in the tank (causing amonia) and a precycled sponge filter being used, I've ordered a betta online. It should be here later this week.

Funny story, I ordered this stunning betta orginally. It was supposed to ship out yesterday. However, when the seller went to go bag him he realized the betta had switched colors! so cool! He texted me and asked if I wanted to switch out the betta, get refunded, or just go with it, etc.

This was the picture of the guy on the site:

And this is how drastic his colors changed

    Screenshot_20220524-110234_Messages.jpg.6574da6ba609337b1b55cec8ae42c3f9.jpg

He had sparkily blue eyes, and red lips which i thought was cool in the original pic. However upon giving the chance to switch fish I did. I wasnt a big fan of the blue on him now. I was told he wouldnt be culled but probably kept as a "shop fish". So I decided to go with this stunner:

    20220523_152743.jpg.42fdb0d7471ead55f19005ca37b2ac63.jpg

Because hes red and white I'm thinking his name will be waldo!
Heres a picture of the tank. A huge fan of the Hygrophila Polysperma. From what I've read an easy stem plant to keep too! I also planted a minni Tiger Lotus behind the cholla wood.

I've also come across some Humpback Limia for sale. This is a fish ive been hunting down for over year at this point. I havent been able to find any instock that ship to Canada... that was until yesterday. So I am seriously considering purchasing some.

  11. From my experiance with gouramis

Sparkliling gouramis are quite shy and need lots of places to hide as well as dither fish. I wouldnt suggest these

Pearl Gouramis can be quite aggressive and be abully. I've had one bully fish where they stop eating.

I would suggets honey gourami from what ive heard is that they are more freindly to other fish.

  12. 25 subscriptions for me! only about 17 of those i watch every video of. Some just dont post anymore like the Get Outdoors channel, Aquarist Podcast, or the Aquariums Unfiltered Podcast.

MD Fish Tanks, Aquarium Co-Op (as well as the co-op 2nd channel), KG Tropicals, Coralfish12g, and the King of DIY are the ones I watch the most. All the other channels sometimes ill watch every second video, or so.
