Danny LeVeck
So I have a 29 gallon tank and I don’t seem to have enough light for plants to thrive and struggle to keep nitrates down. I have 1 clown pleco and 6 corys. Do struggling plants cause an increase in nitrates? Would fake plants be better?
Garren
What plants do you currently have in the tank? In my experience floating plants really help with keeping your nitrates in control. In my option you will still struggle even more with fake plants.
Danny LeVeck
Hornwart and water sprite as floating plants. I have a planted plant that I’m not sure the name. It’s like long grass.
Garren
The plants will have a hard time up taking nitrates if you don't have proper lighting and other building blocks for them to uptake the nitrates plus grow. I find if any of these building blocks are out of balance my plants struggle and my nitrates go up. I am sure others will chime in as well to help you out. This may help out it determining if it proper lighting. Edited January 31, 2021 by Garren
