Moz
Hi All! I added a cuttlebone (half) in my 10gal tank to maintain pH levels and add some calcium for my snail and ghost shrimp. It really smells! I know it's porous and absorbs water. Can it raise the ammonia levels? It's a gnarly smell! thx!
Guppysnail
Yes. Sometimes you get some that were not prepped correctly. Throw it out and test your tank. Also do a 50% water change. Twice today if needed until the smell is gone.

Colu
Sorry for your loss everyone in future I would use crushed coral added to your substrate it essential does the same thing as cuttlefish bone I have never had any issues when using it over 20 plus years
