AndyR
Hey everyone, I wanted to consult the pros here to see if this indeed looks like ick? I added a new plant from my local show last night and woke up to this. What would be the recommended treatment for whatever this is?
xXInkedPhoenixX
It definitely looks like it could be Ich but hard to tell from just the one pic. There is one other disease that is similar and important to make sure if you plan on using heat to treat (personally I'd only medicate and not use heat no matter which it is) This chart from our @Colu may help you id to be sure:
AndyR
Thanks for this! What treatment would you suggest for either ailment?
xXInkedPhoenixX
Personally, I've used API Super Ick cure with positive results however Ich-X is also very effective per Aquarium Co-op's information I've just yet to use it since I've not had an outbreak. I've not yet had to treat Epystylis but our @Colu's thread covers signs and treatment: The Most Effective Treatments of Commonly-Posted Diseases
Colu
Looks like ich I would treat with ick X and add a small amount of aquarium salt 1 table spoon for 5 gallons as ich causes massive electrolyte loss and the salt will add back in essential electrolytes treat for 3 days after seeing the last spots
AndyR
Hey everyone, looks like things are declining for this fish unfortunately. I just ran aquarium salts a few days ago and added Ick-x late last night. Temp is currently set to 82F. What should I do? I really hate loosing fish 😔
Colu
use the aquarium salt in conjunction with ick X keep treating daliy following the instructions on the bottle and leave a low dose of salt in it will take a couple of days before you will no if the medication is having the desired effect @AndyR
