MoRia
I searched for coir or coconut fiber and didn't see anything. Does anyone know if coir liners are aquarium-safe? They're just coconut fiber and meant for lining houseplant containers, so they are plant-safe. I have a tank with river sand and aragonite substrate, but I'm not sure if that's good for growing root-feeding plants. I'm thinking I could put them in little terra cotta pots with grow substrate and place them on top of the aquarium substrate. TIA, Mo
KBOzzie59
I use them in my ponds, if I had a need I'd have no problem putting them in a tank.
ange
I think of coco coir as organic rockwool. Worst case scenario you may get some tannins.
kammaroon
Tropica, big aquatic plants supplier in Europe, sells some of their plants in coconut fibre pots, which can be removed or planted directly into the substrate. I always do the latter.
MoRia
Thanks, y'all! I can deal with tannins.
Guppy Guru
Yeah I would just be curious of the break down process if it could/would cause an ammonia spike. This will be a fun topic to watch! Thank you for asking this question love to see thinking in action!
MoRia
I'm putting in an empty (of fish) tank so I'll check the parameters for a few weeks.
