MoRia Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 I searched for coir or coconut fiber and didn't see anything. Does anyone know if coir liners are aquarium-safe? They're just coconut fiber and meant for lining houseplant containers, so they are plant-safe. I have a tank with river sand and aragonite substrate, but I'm not sure if that's good for growing root-feeding plants. I'm thinking I could put them in little terra cotta pots with grow substrate and place them on top of the aquarium substrate. TIA, Mo
KBOzzie59 Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 I use them in my ponds, if I had a need I'd have no problem putting them in a tank. 1
ange Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 I think of coco coir as organic rockwool. Worst case scenario you may get some tannins. 2
kammaroon Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Tropica, big aquatic plants supplier in Europe, sells some of their plants in coconut fibre pots, which can be removed or planted directly into the substrate. I always do the latter. 1
Guppy Guru Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Yeah I would just be curious of the break down process if it could/would cause an ammonia spike. This will be a fun topic to watch! Thank you for asking this question love to see thinking in action! 1
MoRia Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 I'm putting in an empty (of fish) tank so I'll check the parameters for a few weeks.
