How to grow plant taller?

I want to get some helanthium tenellum for my 40 gallon but I want it to grow tall like the first picture.
How do I get it to grow taller and not short like the second picture?

im sorry, im not so well versed on my plant scientific names, can you please circle the plant you are referring to in both pictures?

Lower light will make it grow taller

im going to say in general lower light causes plants to grow taller (they want to get as much of the light as possible) but it probably also causes them to grow slower and can die. I have read that the color of the light effects how plants grow (dont quote me but i think blue causes denser growth while red causes long wispy growth)

The health of the above plants is dictated by using proper CO2 levels, medium to high light, proper dosing and most importantly husbandry. I group large and frequent water changes into the husbandry category.

When plant health reaches the level of the above tank, you will get what you see in the picture.

If you are in a hurry more "far red" light will make them think they're shaded regardless of overall light intensity.  Not sure where you'd find such a supplemental light source though unless you're handy and make your own.
