Trailblazur
Hey gang!!! Can anyone tell me if the live plants for sale on Aquarium Coop are safe to handle 83 degrees in a Discus tank? THANKS!!!
Remi de Groot
Probably depends a bit on the different kind of plants. "The plants on aquarium coop" is kind of a big range. I've seen a lot of planted Discus tanks so there are def plants around that should be able to handle the temps. So i think best way to go is to check out what plants you like and go from there in checking if they are able to handle the temps. But i think you will be fine with a lot of them.

Remi de Groot
I've seen a lot of Java Fern and Anubias in Discus tanks. So that shouldn't be a proublem. I don't have to much experience with the other 2, but i think they should be fine as well. To be honest all my planting is just - Try - Works out - Sweet, let's use this in all my aquariumsor Try - Fail - Try again in another set-up - Fail again - Never touching this plant again Over time you will find your favorite plants that way. Not only in what works for you to keep alive, but also what you can handle in maintenance. I started with aquascapes full with different plants and a lot of them stam plants. Just don't like maintenance of the stamplants at all (cutting, replanting etc). So i threw them all out and only using easier plants like anubias, java fern etc now. In the end an 'easy aquascape' looks better then a 'this used to be a great aquascape before i started losing interest in maintenancing it aquascape'.

Great points all around 🤣 What are your thoughts on Crypts? Edited January 17, 2023 by Trailblazur
mynameisnobody
Crypts should do you well. They’re my favorite of all the plants.
Remi de Groot
Still working out crypts. I have them for the first time at the moment. But it's also my first sand substrate tank. Not a big fan of the combi. But I think the problem is more the sand then the crypts. They seem hardy enough so far.
jwcarlson
Anubias are great in my discus tank at 85.
Emika_B
My tank is usually in the 80s because of where I live. I’ve had great success with Aquarium CoOp’s crypt wendtii green and red, java fern and Anubias. I think I got my valisneria through them as well and it’s doing great. I have Wendelov java fern and it’s okay, but it could also be the snails and platties going to town on it.
Andy's Fish Den
Plants that I have kept in discus tanks that have done good: sword plants, anubias, java Fern, jungle val, some crypts (wendtii bronze and green, balansae, spiralis). I have not tried any stem plants in the warmer water, so can't help with those.
mynameisnobody
I have also had success with Bolbitis at low 80’s with no issues. If you can get your hands on some, it’s beautiful and bulletproof.
TheSwissAquarist
I can suggest Hygrophilia Corymbosa var. Siamensis and Amazon swords also work well, along with Limnophilia.
Tazalanche
Amazon swords, bronze crypts, anubias nana & jungle valisneria worked great for me for many years, back when I still had a planted discus community tank. 1
