Kyle_B
This past week I’ve been cycling my tank in preparation for adding guppies and I’ve recently measured the gh of my water, it is about 30 ppm. I want to raise the General Hardness but I don’t even know where to begin or if it’s a necessity for guppies. If anyone has experience with softer water and owning tropical fish please feel free to offer some advice. Thank you!
KBOzzie59
I have very soft water, I run either crushed coral substrate or a media bag filled with crushed coral and give it a shake every 2 weeks or so. You can also use wonder shells. I do this for my guppies and platties. They are making tons of healthy fry so that is my GH test and the shrimp are thriving as well, started with 5 now have well over 500.

Kyle_B
Okay, thank you! For guppies would you recommend a combination of wonder shells and crushed coral?
KBOzzie59
Wonder shell to get it up quick but not needed (normally) with crushed coral. I add no wonder shells in my crushed coral tanks.
