Ben_RF
Does anyone know if the casing for the heater can be removed to remove dead snails? It appears very similar to what NICREW and a few others have produced. The only problem I found with those is that snails (e.g., ramshorn and mts) eventually would die off enough in the unit to cause it to short circuit. I would love to get some more this style of unit if there is a way to open it up to clean.
Guppysnail
I have some but all in tanks. It looks like a front and back piece with a seam so I imagine so. I don’t know about the new ones with no end of life indicator light but I have 2 50w on the way so if no one knows by then I’ll check it out. Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics
I’m curious @Guppysnail, what size tanks are you putting the 50s in?

I use the 100s on the rest of my tanks 10 gal to 40 gallon. They didn’t have 50s when I ordered those.
Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics
Thanks @Guppysnail I’m planning on setting up some 20 longs and I’ve been wondering if the 50w was underpowered for that. If you like the 100w on your 10g then think that answers my question. thanks again!
Guppysnail
@Mitch_ScruffyCityAquaticsAnytime. Yeah I have a 100 in 3 20 longs. It’s perfect. Edited September 22, 2022 by Guppysnail
Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics
@Guppysnailwhat about a 75? Any experience with a larger tank? I currently have two 100s in my 75 gallon, but they are almost three years old. I need to have replacements on the ready. thanks again. As far as the original question, I believe they are referring to the honey comb looking area that allows water flow.
Guppysnail
@Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics @Bev C use 1 -100 on I believe a 55 gallon and it’s fine so 2 on a 75 sounds more than reasonable. I use 2 on a 40b but I have one set 1 degree lower than the main one as a failsafe if the other stops working since that tank is in front of an air conditioner floor vent.

No complaints, but this time of year I only need the water at most 4 degrees above where it settles on it's own. In a few months I'll be keeping it 13 degrees over what my thermostat is set to at night. We'll see how they hold up to that.
redfish
I use the 100w in our 55 gal. It keeps the tank within 1 degree of the setting just fine.
Guppysnail
@Ben_RF yes they pop apart easily. I did not take it the entire way apart for pics because I’m that person that can’t get things to go back together correctly 🤣
