What’s wrong with my betta

I bought this little guy yesterday, more like rescued from the local pet store, his fin has been like this since I saw him and hasn’t opened up, his other fins opened up some but this one hasn’t, he’s obviously very young, not even in his full colors, I don’t want him to die

Could be some sort of fin rot or fin tare.

1. Is he eating or swimming around?

2. Does he have any tank mates with him?

3.  Water parameters/ temperature.

Questions 1 through 3 above will really help. Regardless....I think adding a bit of aquarium salt is a good idea. You can start at 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons.

With rescue bettas I have heard folks have the best luck with constant vigilance. That means daily partial water changes and multiple small feedings a day. Add a baseline amount of aquarium salt and only replace what you remove from water changes. (If you add 2 tablespoons salt total and remove 25% of the water for a change, I'd add back about 1.5 teaspoons max). I would start here and see how they behave day to day. Have meds ready but don't use them unless you don't see improvement with this regimen.

He swims and eats fine, he has no tank mates, and water parameters are good. I feed him twice a day and he seems happy, I just worry about his fin

It looks like fin rot. As @laritheloudmentioned, base dose of aquarium salt and pristine water parameters are a good place to start. If he’s active and eating, that’s a good sign.

I agree with what was said above. Catappa leaves can also help with that, and I know my betta likes them! And that's a good sign that he is eating, let us know how he is doing!
