DustinJWagner
Good afternoon! I am quarantining some fancy goldfish using the aquarium coop quarantine trio (maracyn, paracleanse and ich X.) I see it is advised to not feed the fish during the first few days of quarantine. As a beginner fish keeper, I’m curious what the reason for not feeding is. One would initially assume that feeding would be beneficial to strengthen the fish who may not have ate well at the fish store and give them energy to fight off disease - what is the reason behind the fasting? Thanks! 🙂
FLFishChik
Mainly because you want them to marinate in the medicated water without disturbing the med ratio. If you feed them, then you have to clean the water/ do a water change and that will disrupt the med concentration in the water and make it less effective.
Cinnebuns
Fed fish either poop or don't eat all of the food. Both create ammonia which means maintenance which means less meds.
Colu
It's to help the fish pass any parasites more easily and to provent ammonia spike's
