venzi
Hi. I filled my 20H tank with gravel and water. I looked underneath the tank and noticed there are several large bubbles below my UGF plate. Do I need to shake the bubbles loose or can I just leave them there and they wont cause any long term harm?

If you had large bubbles that developed in layers of substrate, that can be problematic methane or hydrogen sulfide gas. But air under a freshly set up UGF plate is not a problem at all and will disperse with normal use, especially with a powerhead. If you are accumulating air under your plate using airstones, your airstones are too low. Just lift them up a little bit until there’s no air going under the plate.
venzi
@Odd Duck cool thank you. I'm gonna have to drain my tank anyways. So I'll try to fill it up w/o causing the bubbles in the first place. But good to know.
