Lily Pipe vs Jet Pipe

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about switching from a lily pipe outlet to a jet pipe for a little extra flow to keep my stem plants moving in the current. Will a jet pipe circulate co2 just as well as the lily pipe? Any drawbacks to making this switch? I have a 17 gallon aquarium that it heavily planted. Any advice would be much appreciated!

@Minanorathanks for the reply! I am now considering a spray bar but can’t find one that won’t stick out like a sore thumb in my small rimless aquarium

You could make one with clear polycarbonate rigid tubing and a clear plug/cap

ZIQI 16PCS Polycarbonate Rigid Tubing, 12mm (1/2") OD x 1mm Wall Thickness PETG Tube, 12.6 Inch Length Clear DIY Acrylic Tube Lexan Tubing https://a.co/d/7AegCWt

@Minanoracool thanks for the suggestion! I just need to figure out how to mount it to the tubing from the canister but this looks like a cool idea

Yeah depending on your line size you can find fittings or use flexible clear tubing but it can be a pita.

@Mmiller2001i have a fluval 107 with 16/22 diameter

I use this, each section can be adjusted 360⁰ and you can buy more sections to reduce flow or remove sections to increase.

Eheim 4005310 Spray Bar Set for 594 Tubing https://a.co/d/1UGmztl

Has a quick release too. And prime access.

@Mmiller2001cool that looks like it would work for me. You think it would be better than the jet pipe?

It will be better co2 distribution and you can also aim it at the surface to increase service agitation. It's everything you want when you're injecting CO2.

For a 17 gallon tank, a regular lilly pipe should be fine. I don't try to get my plants moving. I just want good, evenly distributed co2 through and around plants.

Here's mine in action.
