Fishhead
I installed a whole house water filter incoming ph 7.0 out of the filter is 8.4. Filter contains sediment and carbon filters. Is this higher ph accurate and do I need to be concerned in using the output in my fish room, I would rather have the ph of 7.

What are you using to test PH? If it's a strip don't trust it. I have read some carbon filter will raise PH. I would not use that high of a PH for my fish, it's a bit high. Read up on it, I think once the filter is used and flushed it is better.
Fishhead
Thanks, I am using API ph test kit.
Tihshho
Sediment and carbon filters shouldn't be shocking things this much. Are you on city or well water? What does the water test at if you leave it in a container overnight?
CMcDermott
Check the water hardness going into and out of the sediment filter. Is the filter medium crushed limestone or aragonite etc? Changing the PH to 8.4 sounds like the water coming out is full of calcium carbonate.

Add an airstone to the container of water that has not gone through the filter and wait overnight. Once the carbon dioxide gasses off you may find your ph actually is 8.4. The filter may be helping gas’s off out of the pipes.
