Richard R
Hello all. Wasn't sure where to post this question. So, I have over run the first floor of my home with fish tanks. I'm in the process of starting a new 60gal tank. So my question is, does anyone have experience or advice as towards whether or not it's a good idea or a bad one. To put this tank on the 2nd floor of my home? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've researched online and it seems ok. But I'd rather here it from people I can trust. Thank you in advance for your help, have a good day all.
KBOzzie59
On an outside wall or over a first floor load bearing wall "should" be fine.
Richard R
It will be on an outside wall. Thank you for replying.
Widgets
If you know the direction of the floor joists, it is better to have the length of the tank perpendicular to the joists so you are spreading the weight across more joists. If you are parallel to the joists, you may have the weight mainly on one joist. The thickness of the subfloor and floor will help spread the weight across the joists. With a thick enough floor, the perpendicular or parallel orientation is not as much an issue.
Anon
If you want some more peace of mind, just think about all of the people keeping 60 gallon water heaters and large bath tubs upstairs. I wouldn't think twice about it.
Edsland
Ive had a 75 gallon tank on 1st floor with a basement and no problems your tank at 60 gallons is about 500 lbs. Should be fine as long as your stand is made for the weight.
