Katherine
Look at that new growth on Rusty! @Guppysnail Stripes' shell made me think of yours who'd been chewed on. The new growth from the last 1-2 months in my tank is definitely a different pattern than what was there before. I wonder if that's a water thing or a food thing or what.

I’m newer to zebra nerites. It could even be a brief period at sellers being malnourished then restarting growth. Great! What are they munching on? Are those the snail pellets you were talking about?

Kinda like guppies are always silver at first then color as the age. Oh, I meant on the nerite, not on the mystery. On 7/19/2022 at 8:51 PM, Chick-In-Of-TheSea said: Wow, new growth already. Great! There were a bunch of them in a pretty clean 10 gallon.

Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Hmm, I wonder if my picky zebra nerite would eat that.

Chick-In-Of-TheSea
I guess she’s not “picky”. She is a simpleton that knows what she likes (algae). I’m trying to cater to a low maintenance snail. But still, I may try to offer this and see what happens. I just want to spoil all the snails!!!!
Katherine
Can you guys guess what I bought today? . . . Another mystery snail. This one's a black one. No name yet, the kids are currently unaware of it's existence. 1
Katherine
It was decided that it was my turn to name a snail (for the first time), so this is Jayne.

Katherine
I don't know what poor Rusty went through before I got him, but look at this new shell growth! I'm thinking maybe magenta after all.
Katherine
I really hope Rusty and/or Jayne are female, otherwise Penny is in trouble.

I am using easy green and coop root tabs. My water sprite are still settling in and I'm having issues with algae in my vallisneria. Not the best person to advise on ferts. Edit: I think I need to move the Val back in the tank. The light is clipped under the front rim and very close to them. Pretty sure the algae can be killed by taking the plant out and soaking it in seltzer. They were talking about that over on the Reverse Respiration thread. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
I have the same thing going on with my red ludwigia, but I just put root tabs under it, so I don't want to take it out.

It’s super interesting to read the details. We had fun creating it. soak plants 9-12 hours in the dark in plain seltzer. I weight mine down with spoons. Return to tank. That’s it. Pests, eggs and most algae are destroyed. 🤗

Katherine
These guys have been in QT just over 2 weeks now and are still looking good! 2 more weeks to go. It's a terrible photo, but they just move so much if they see a person.
Katherine
My baby mystery snails have been taken out of the breeder box and added to the main tank. You can check out that journal with the link in my signature if you want to see more photos. One of the ramshorns we bought a few weeks ago has died. The other 4 seem to be doing well and I've already got lots of miniscule babies.

It is amazing how snails grow when fed properly and given proper water care. You are obviously doing a fantastic job 🤗 2
