Would two Aquaclear 50s be enough for a 55 gallon?

I run filters to match bioload and flow needs not necessarily tank size. I used 2 ac 50 plus 2 sponges on a 29. But it was very heavy stocked with tons of guppies and a temporary housing for 11 panda corydora with 2 myster Snails and hoardes of shrimp.  I found it to be not enough and gunned up and slowed very quickly but it might have been with a larger water volume tank and definitely a lower bioload. If you are doing just a medium stocking it should be just fine. I do like to use airstones or sponge filters with Aqua clears. They don’t do much for added surface agitation in my experience.

I agree with Guppysnail. If all you're keeping is a single Cardinal Tetra in a 55gallon tank, you probably don't even need a filter at all. If you're squeezing five full grown Oscars into a 55 (I don't recommend that by the way) then you'd need lots of filtration. It all depends on bioload and the water conditions the fish prefer. If the fish like high flow rates, then you want more filtration.
