yassy
Hi. I had 7 clown killifish in my 10 gallon tank but after the power outage for 4 days in Jan, now I got only 5 left there. They area active and nothing wrong with them but I feel like when I see 5 killifish swimming mostly top part and nothing in the middle or bottom, tank looks bit empty... I thought of red cherry shrimp but killifish may eats them.. how many more of what fish would go great to make this 10 gallon tank look bit more full? I thought of green tetra as well but they are schooling fish so if I add 6 of them to 5 killifish in the 10 gallon tank... it maybe too crowded? Any recommendation is appreciated. Thank you.
Fish Folk
CoOp has a nice answer published here. Let me give you an honest (but less-than-advisable) answer: I’d try 6x Pygmy Corydoras: 6x Cochu’s Blue Tetras: And 6x Chili Rasboras: Now… everyone will tell you that’s too many fish for a 10 gal. It is. But if you water change regularly, and will add 3x plants for every fish… (69 plants total - every little plant counts, including bunches of Java moss) I think it could be awesome sauce. I’d put several small sponge filters to work in there to provide ample biological filtration and dissolved oxygen. yassy
Thank you. I too wondered if I do more frequent water change, if I could do group of green neon tetra or something like that but I was not sure. The tank has covered top with duckweed and I got Buce, Java fern, subwassertang moss and moss ball. It used to be red cherry tank. I got none in there now though.

I’d recommend just one water change per week, 20%. That should be fine. Remember to add water near same temperature as what you draw out, and always add dechlorinator if you’re on city / town water. yassy
Yes, that is what I do for killifish tank already. So, I guess I just keep doing what I am doing. I have treated water in the water bottle so I can use for shrimp tank but I started using those for fish tank water change now.It is more convenient and I do not have to ask myself if I added prime r not or if the temp of water is good enough. My very happy 5gal has 2 kuhli loaches (which have a surprisingly low bio load for their size), a dwarf crayfish, a nerite snail, 6 endlers, around 7 neocaradina shrimp... that just had babies. Lots of bladder snails. Lots of plants including floaters, never any water parameter issues, change water weekly that includes a good filter rinse in the removed water. I've yet to register more than 20ppm nitrates even with dosing ferts for the plants. Edited March 12, 2022 by Jawjagrrl
