Aquatictimes
Hey all, This is my 3 gallon neocardina shrimp tank. I know they love the moss but it has become overgrown with moss. I would like to rescape it without ruining the moss completely but not having it overgrow the tank. Thoughts?
Patrick_G
I know it’s overgrown but it looks so nice! I just trim my moss with scissors until I get the shape I want.

Griznatch
If you cut it slowly, I think they'll scoot out of the way. I have this issue as well in my 10 gallon tanks. My biggest concern is all the shrimp fry that are embedded in it. They don't like to come out and I'm always worried I'll lose them or they'll get tossed out with the trimmings.
Patrick_G
Maybe put the trimmings in a small container so you can pick through them. I tend so save all my Java moss trimmings for my “quarantine” tank that’s actually a guppy colony and I have accidentally added some shrimp that were hiding in the moss.

I was extremely lucky that a batch of shrimp I ordered had a gravid momma in and when she arrived there were adorable fry everywhere. So I was very particular about saving them! But I’m sure they are big enough now it’s just if there are any new ones. @Patrick_G Yeah that’s a good idea. Before I had shrimp in this tank I put the trimmings in my pea puffer tank to grow his moss home that he loves but I’m afraid if I do that now I’ll just be adding lunch for him as well. Expensive lunch too!

eatyourpeas
Looks great! I am sure I have thrown away lots of shrimp when I pull the extra Hornwort out of the tank. 😳
