Yes, benefits circulation to decrease amount of stagnant or dead space where water don’t move well. Or can help spread warm water to heat more efficiently. In my 75G I have African cichlids so it’s a fairly heavy bio load so to keep everything stirred up into the water column. I have 2 marineland C360 canister filters, a large ACO sponge filter, a 10 inch bubble wand, then my small circulator (wave maker) which every few days I’ll change it direction. 
I also use a ACO powerhead in my 125G on top of an ACO large sponge filter. I use this for straight current. Not so much pin pointing dead areas.

both are very useful in more ways than I’m using them for too.
