Fish food and tank clarity.

Recently I bought TetraPro tropical fish food and my water turned yellow,

What is the best food that leaves the tank water clear?

I haven’t had any discolored water from the any of the various versions of Tetra flake foods.  I wonder if you got a bad batch?

I have used tetra flake for years without issues. I agree with @Patrick_G that you might have gotten a bad batch. I feed krill flake from AC and that doesn’t stain the water for me.

I think it maybe because I am using a sponge filter. I am a bit concerned because I am considering changing my 40 gallon tank from an an ehiem canister to two large sponge filters. My tank does not bode well for HOBs, My current flake food uses food dye. The fish like it. Actually the krill food sounds pretty good. I am considering hooking the ehiem to run periodically, not sure if that is safe, maybe not. My goal is low maintenance, in the fashion of the store in China Town.

 I don’t think any filter will remove a tint from the water unless you’re using media like Seachem Purigen or activated carbon. Several forum member who use sponge filters have mentioned using a power filter temporarily when they want to remove tannins or polish the water. A water change also works.
