  1. My Java Moss seemed to do poorly at 80 tied to Angel Fish and breeding Which plants, mosses, and grasses do well at higher temperatures. Thanks
  2. I have a 40 gallon acrylic tank which I have just taken the scratches out of, a couple of Angel fish and some smaller fish. Concerned about night time noise from canister, and the possibility of strong water flow and angel fish, looking for canister clean level of water maintenance. I have two possibilities for spotless water: 1) run the Ehiem canister during the day and your large sponge filter around the clock. What do you think of running canister only in the day time? 2) Go internal. The Ziss filter looks interesting, but may not quite do the job? Sponge filters work but don't clean the water that well. You have a power head shown to top a sponge filter? Can it top anything else. Any ideas regarding Ziss or your power head? Thanks, Mark
  3. I think it maybe because I am using a sponge filter. I am a bit concerned because I am considering changing my 40 gallon tank from an an ehiem canister to two large sponge filters. My tank does not bode well for HOBs, My current flake food uses food dye. The fish like it. Actually the krill food sounds pretty good. I am considering hooking the ehiem to run periodically, not sure if that is safe, maybe not. My goal is low maintenance, in the fashion of the store in China Town.
  4. Recently I bought TetraPro tropical fish food and my water turned yellow, What is the best food that leaves the tank water clear? Thanks, Mark
  5. My acrylic tank would look better if scratches were removed. Some people use Novus, and some people use McGuire s, both claim to contain wax. Are these waxes safe for tropical fish? Thanks, Mark
  6. Looking for a digital light that doesn't require a glass top and doesn't collect moisture???
  7. Which is best HOB or Sponge Filter for 40 gallon tank with Angel fish? What models are best?
  8. I only have the hydrogen peroxide right now is that okay to place in tank with Angel Fish eggs?
  9. Based on Angel Fish nibbling beyond infected eggs I have placed the Angel Fish back in the community tank. They remain just behind the glass staring out towards their babies. They even know where their breeding tank is in the other room.
  10. I have two Angels and this is there third try. The first was a community tank and they laid eggs on the heater, and those eggs disappeared. The second attempt angels have own breeding tank and laid eggs again on heater. They ate those eggs very quickly. I bought an amazon sword plant and they immediately laid eggs on it. The eggs are smaller than the previous eggs. My wife said that the previous batch of eggs looked bad. Its been 24 hours and they have not eaten those eggs as far as I know.
  11. My Angel Fish laid eggs on the new amazon sword plant. Should I put Angel Fish from breeding tank back into the community tank?
  12. Wow you have some wonderful cleaners!!!!!!! How are the Pandas holding up? What are your bigger fish? How many active tanks do you have?
  13. Nice looking tank. In the Bay Area there is a guy selling eco-fish bowls, that are fully planted. They have some guppies. They say you don't need to do anything to take care of them? They are expensive. Do you have some cleaner fish or snails? Is that a 20 gallon tank?
  14. Unfortunately I have no Corys yet. I am just studying cleanerology. We need to pick cleaners based on tank size, growth size, the size of the other fish, and color.... and it is a strong possibility that they may not have those fish the first time you go to your neighborhood pet store. (My cleaners were picked as impulse buying, without thought) This means that we have to correctly document what we want so we can search and wait for it. It is important for Youtube videos to make sure we get that information and perhaps some judgement on how available they have been.. I believe that most people have smaller tanks. It might be an interesting survey question. I can't remember the name of the dwarf pleco. Is there more than one.? I think if you have a small tank Panda Corys are cute, but delicate There is a loach that looks like a fish and not a snake. Loaches have this issue of size too. I saw my first Otto the other day at Petco. I am considering Cory's appreciation for snails. I watch most of the aquarium videos on Youtube, regarding this subject and others. I find myself saying what did he say I want to buy one of those right away. Summaries may be helpful for some videos,and/or listing points below in the comments section. For many fish keepers it is a hobby in which they are very well versed, but I am more like a student with a notebook.
  15. We're on the same wave length. I was thinking about putting two trash cans next to the house by the window. She has also mentioned moving 40 gallon tank into the kitchen which would put me close to water. Either way I hope to a get "U" tube to hang the water line into aquarium. The pump has been approved by my Chief Financial Officer.
  16. With daily vacuuming it is easy to gravel vacuum daily, which means less nitrates, and maybe less water changes. If you carpet it looks cool but inevitably stuff is going to fall between the grasses make it hard to vacuum, but the grasses absorb a lot of the food and waste. What is the best approach for tank long term stability? I have plants but no carpet so far.
  17. Thanks Cory, good luck with your business and your new location. You are doing a great job take care. Love your shows. Currently watch other employees too. I ordered your root tabs, they sound great!
  18. My 40 gallon tank has a 24 inch neon light and I was wondering if moving to a LED light might be brighter for plants??? Do they have any super powerful LED tube lights? 24"? Trying to save some money. Will upgrade reflector too. I did get an interesting LED light for my 10 gallon, for about 35 dollars, (NICREW Classic LED Light G2) I don't know a lot about it like how it would handle and outside timer, but it has controlled daylight and moonlight (blue). It has a timer setting for sun up and down (haven't tried it). Anyway I am on a budget. The misses is kind of keeping an eye on me.
  19. There is really a void in a comprehensive talk on cleaning fish per tank size, most i have heard are not complete. Here is the problem when you go to the fish store, they may only have one or two types, and they may be for larger tanks, but no one knows it. So I bought a pleco of course and two silver fly foxes (boy do they fly, they don't exactly school they break the sound barrier). Yesterday I went to Petco and they some Otos, Siamese clean fish, Corydoras, and and golden loaches... Now I know after asking lost of questions which fish I might like, but I have my cleaning fish.
  20. So fertilized plant substrate last about a year. Do you remove the old pellets and put in new? How do you deal with the original fertilized clay? I notice most responders seem to not have the fertilized plant substrate. Am I better off with or without it? I like to vacuum almost daily. My my ammonia nitrite cycle has been pretty much zero, but my nitrates in the 40 gallon tank could be less, recently I did 50% water change. It seems I can hold nitrites near zero by daily gravel vacuuming. Basically I let my 40 gallon take go a bit and got into nitrate concerns. Since then I have changed about 80-gallons. Do you feel that the ammonia/nitrites produced by a fertilized plant substrate will result in more otherwise unneeded water changes?
  21. I don't mean bi-directional I can move the tubes. This weekend I moved about 50 gallons of water and I am pretty old. I am thinking about home depot??? I am also thinking of small pond applications. It is always nice to have some gold fish outdoors for the children to look at.
  22. I saw a youtube video on water changes where they put a pump inside of a bucket to move water into the tank gently through a tube. I am interested in what is a cost effective pump, as well as whether there are pumps that can be used outside of the bucket between the bucket and aquarium in both directions?
  23. Recently Cory visited and commented on plants inside along the sides of the aquarium. It gives the fish more room in a small tank and makes them feel more comfortable and safe. I believe he used the words "mesh", but I don't know what kind of mesh? Likewise he didn't really mention what kind of plants to create the walls of your aquascape? What kind of mesh and what kind of plants could be used to frame your aquarium from the inside?
