Switching out filters...

I have a 12 gallon Fluval Edge. I have recently rescaped it, and decided that I no longer wish to have the Aquaclear filter in the middle of the tank. I am going to install a Dennerle internal filter, but I'm wondering if I need to leave it in to cycle, or if I can dump some Fritz's Live bacteria in, and it will cycle that way. I'm not in a hurry, don't get me wrong, I can easily leave it in for a couple of weeks, but I'm just curious.

shouldn't cause a major issue if your tank has been running for a while, your can run both for a while or you can squeeze the gunk out of the aqua clear into your tank and let the new filter suck it up, that can jumpstart your new filter however it will be ugly, usually I would only recommend doing that on an empty tank.

The best solution is to just run both together but there should be beneficial bacteria in your tank without the filter anyway so it shouldn't be a huge problem,.
