31LJ95
I have a 4500 to 5000 litre pond (1000+ gallons) pond. I currently have 9 goldfish in there and was thinking would 3 koi or more be ok? It would have enough filtration I know how much they would need just thinking space and everything. Cheers
Colu
The problem you have mixing koi with goldfish is koi have a tendency to bully goldfish
Patrick_G
I know I’d give it a try with three, but I guess it depends on how much area they have to swim in and how big the fish get. You might be able to get some from a line of smaller fish and only get males. Edited May 3, 2021 by Patrick_G
gardenman
In general, I would think three koi in a thousand plus gallon pond would be okay. Now, a lot depends on the shape of the pond. Koi tend to be long fish so a wider/longer/shallower pond is better than a deeper narrower pond.
Patrick_G
3’ is considered sort of the minimum, any less and you run into some problems with temperature and predators.
