    Help

Hi all. Maybe you can help. I have many tanks and one is a Molly tank. I have 4 gold dust and a couple balloon + a handful of adolescent gold dust. I breed a variety of fish. The issue in this tank began following the Nor’easter that hit the East Coast last week. We lost power for 12 hours. I did my best to keep water flow by doing small water changes and pouring water in. It got chilly but not cold enough to kill. We hear via a wood stove. I had an ammonia spike like crazy. I have been able to get it down to 2ppm. PH is correct. Nitrate and Nitrites were also high but currently 2 ppm and 20 ppm. I have lots of live plants, 4 lava stones, am running a sponge filter, an Aqueon filter and a aqua clear filter (I added this recently to try and help. My poor fish are in really rough shape. I did a ick and general cure regiment that ended 3 days ago (I added the new filter and put fluval Zeo-carb in a media bag in there. I can’t figure out what is wrong with them. They are inactive at the start of the day when level are high, I do a 70-90% water change and have been using stress guard, stability (I’m guessing my bacteria died off when the filters weren’t running), prime, ammo lock, stress syme, stress coat and fluval cycle to get the tank back to being cycled. Every day the levels go down a bit. I’ve lost 4-5 ballon Molly and my gold dust look like they are falling apart. They are eating (I’ve been feeding before my water change). But 3 of 4 are losing weight rapidly. Their color is fading, their scales appear to be missing. Red gills, shimmying, I’ve notice white stuff hanging off them, fins clamped, and some scales on the larger are shinny like glitter. I have a juvenile bristle nose who seems fine. I have mystery snails in there but a few died and the rest have this white stuff coming off of them. I’ve been researching and researching and know the ammonia is playing a part. But as to the other issues…. It seems like it could be so many different things. The smaller Molly are doing better. I want to move them but am unsure if moving them could cause issues in another tank (my hospital tank is in use for quarantine. I’ve used Cory’s suggested 3 med quarantine approach and had them in quarantine for over a week and they seem fine. Should I move them to my guppy breeding tank? If so.. should I move the larger Molly to that tank or the smaller guys? If the tank crashes completely as it appears it is… should I use the hardscape (rocks and wood with plants attached / unattached plants in another tank? Or remove the plants and boil the wood and stone? Also suggestions about what to do with my pleco in there? As mentioned I breed a variety of fish. I live in an area rural area and the closest stores to get fish and aquarium stuff are an hour or so away / big box stores. I’ve made a nice little business of breeding, buying used tanks and stuff on the cheap and selling folks around here ready to go tanks with seeded filters and what not. We also sell hard scape items and my fiancé makes resin aquarium decorations and makes them aquarium safe so we can offer people customized decorations. I also carry all sorts of medications and water treatment stuff and do aquarium maintenance + house calls for stuff like ick outbreaks so folks don’t have to buy bottles of stuff. It’s a good gig / business plan. So I’m nervous about moving anything from this tank to other tanks and risk infecting another tank. Any help would be appreciated. I’m lost on this one.
  2. I got a couple new fish that I ordered online. Ordered chili rasboras and CPDs. On arrival I had half the chili rasboras dead. I put them in a cycled QT tank. The chili rasboras all died, fortunately the CPDs are looking good. They have colored back up and eating well. But had a couple suddenly die with distinct yellow internal coloring. Picture attached shows a CPD that is clearly colored up, the fins if in water are fully visibly orange. But the belly and top of the head are very visibly bright neon yellow. As all the fish in the QT, not concerned about spreading but would like to have an idea of what it is so I could treat it effectively. Tank parameters are Amon and Nitrite 0 ppm. Nitrate 10-20 ppm. Hard water. pH 7.2.
  3. Hi everyone! My name is Daryl. This is my first post to this forum and I’m sad to say to it’s out of desperation. I’m not sure if this is like other forums so I will start by describing in as much detail as I can. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post! I have a 55 gallon planted community tank containing Serpae tetras, neons, pristellas, 5 ghost shrimp, Nerite snail and a juvenile golden Asian algae eater. Tank has been set up since January. Filtration is HOB Auqeon quietflow 50 and a 30 that are loaded with bagged media, filter mesh and fine filter floss and modified tops to hold some lucky bamboo and golden pothos. Water parameters are all stable and have been holding consistent since end of cycle(75-76 degrees Fahrenheit, ph 7.6, ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrates 20-30 ppm, gh 7, kh 5) I use well water and this is what comes directly from the tap. I Do weekly water changes (% varies on how many nitrates the plants used but usually about %25) typical food going into the tank once a day is either Fluval bug bites, tetramin tropical flakes or frozen brine shrimp, and algae wafers, with occasional fresh cucumber and zucchini. 2 of my pristella tetras have shown some signs of bloating days ago so I switched to a light diet of shelled peas thinking maybe they were constipated because I didn’t see the “pine cone” dropsy symptoms. The 2 pristella tetras didn’t show signs of improvement and one stopped eating and separated itself entirely from the community yesterday. I woke this morning to find that the bloating went down significantly in the worst of the two but it looks to have internal bleeding and is gasping” for air. At the moment I only have api general cure, Ich-x and aquarium salt. I don’t think this is something that Ich x will solve. I don’t know about aquarium salt helping or if it’s safe for plants. (Varies Anubias, windelov Java fern, Asian water fern, Christmas and Java moss, rotala rotundafolia, AR rosefolia, mint Charlie, dwarf baby tears, Aponogetan ulvaceous, and water lilly) will general cure help this and be safe for all plants snails and inverts? Thanks to aquarium co op for all you guys do for the hobby and to anyone else who took the time to read all of this! Any suggestions are appreciated!
  4. Hey, it's been a while since I've posted here, but I'm back. So for the past two months, my Betta, Ciel, has had this white growth on his dorsal fin. The white spot on his lip was there for 6 months, but yesterday it started to look fleshy and pulposus. I wasn't sure how to identify it, because at first it resembled a fungus or columnaris, but the pictures I saw online didn't match with it. Apparently bacteria forms on the lip, but the white stuff on his lip didn't bother him nor did it grow til yesterday. Unsure, I treated with Maracyn and Ich X, but it made no difference. If it's not a bacteria or a fungus, it could be a virus or cancer, which I read to have no cure. Otherwise, Ciel has acted completely normal. His swimming is normal, he's eager to eat, and he naps a lot, but he's an old fish- I've had him since February 2020. The white stuff doesn't seem to bother him, because I don't see him rubbing his back on the rocks or anything like that. The stuff is now eating away at his dorsal fin and there's raised lumps under his scales around his dorsal fin, plus his lip is starting to turn flesh colored and bulge as well. Still, it doesn't seem to affect his behavior or health at all. At this point, I'm completely clueless to what this is. I'm thinking it might be benign tumors, and I'm worried on what to do now. Can anyone identify what this is and give me any tips? Is he at a point where I can't help him? Thanks for the help. Edit: His water parameters are normal, his water temperature is 77°, he eats a variety of food from Omega One Buffet Pellets, Hikari Bio Gold, API flakes, and bloodworms, KH is 3 and GH is 8. I've been having trouble cleaning the algae (I don't have shrimp or snails because there's no moss or enough hiding spots), but I don't think that's affecting him much.
  5. Ph:7, Kh:40, Gh:150, nitrite 0, nitrate 20, ammonia 0. temp 80 I am a new hobbyist with a betta fish that I rescued from bad conditions. I have him in a 10 gallon with a few plants and a mystery snail. My fish has white spots that are seeming to spread over his face and being a first time fish mom I really need help diagnosing. He still is interested in his food and doesn’t seem lethargic. I added crushed corals to help the alkalinity hoping that might help, but the alkalinity is still really low. the first picture is when I first added him to the tank, the next is 2 weeks later and the last photo is yesterday. I’m really worried about him and I really want to be careful when medicating him and would appreciate any advice.
