  1. So my guppy died. Im assuming early last night because he was still swimming in the morning. And definelyy didnt look this bad I found him just now and he had multiple small brown things on him. In the pictures i seperated one off of him. What do you think these are? They where all on his face. I cant tell if their insects of any sort. Or just damaged broken off scales? Please let me know ALSO i did q water test and everything is good. 0 - 0.5 nitrates , 0 - 0.5 nitrites hardness is the same as always and ph is at 7.5
  2. I dont have a lid. I use a net to cover the tank Hello. Thanks for the reply . I am indeed home and did do a 40% water change. I have 4 fancy guppys and 3 endlers. All are male They are housed with 2 male platys and 7 neon tetras
  3. i cant get a solid image at all so sorry the guppy (different to last) is at the top of the tank and has its right fin not moving at all. it almost looks stiff, its left fin is paddling and moving fine. what could the issue be? should mention that this guppy is getting bullied
  4. hey everyone, another thing ive seen is another of the guppys. one of their fins seem stiff and isnt moving
  5. came back from holiday and this guy has a ripped fin. it was fine when i left and i was gone for 2 weeks. is it just a tear or should i treat for fin rot?
  6. So i want to set my 5 gallon up for saltwater (indtead of crabs) im going to have coral (rock flower anemone) and sexy shrimp. What type of light do i need for this tank?
  7. Oh ok this is great news actually. Thanks!
  8. So i have a 5 gallon and i am planning to put 2 vampire crabs in. I have searched before and people seemed to agree it was a good amount for a 5 gallon but now a lot of sites say I need a 10 for 6. But nothing about 5s and if its even ok. the tank i planning is going to be built up with rocks, sticks and tons of plants. They will have tons to climb and even a nice area to walk freely in front of the water tank size is 25cm wide by 40cm long thoughts?
  9. ok thanks! its just i havnt got any new plants recently and havnt seen these guys till now
  10. the brown one is literally 1mm in diameter and so is the white one. however there are many others ive seen that are even smaller.
  11. I provided an image. If anyone can idemtify these and tell me if their anything to worry about thatll be great. I have recently spotted toms of little organisms in my tank which i believe just popped up revently. Ive counted around 4 or 5 different types..
  12. Is this fin rot or just a tair? If its fin rot how bad is it?
  13. The fish looked normal honestly , well the first proberably died to fin rot . It was a guppy so it did look a big off but i domt think this was the cause. The second one was unwell for a few weeks but im not sure why. It was moving its gills rapidly so i feel it had bad respiration. The worm was only around 3 or 4mm long
  14. not horrible... but i do see some issues i would like to point out. anyone else with more experience please correct me. 1 , those bettas. the betts dont look unhealthy but the fact you have 2 or maybe more together even if female is already a risk, but not the worst idea, but the fact you are keeping them with other fish as well isnt very smart.. 2, are those glow fish? one of the biggest things i see new fish keepers get is glow fish and honestly they are not worth the hassle so if u can you could give them back or you could keep them its personal preference. 3. that algae does not look good, i recommend injecting co2 or putting in a air stone for more circulation, tanks with less circulation tend to grow more algae. also even fi you want a community tank i see over 5 fish in there and for a beginner (to what i understand you are) that can be tricky. 4. fake plants - just don't do it, get real ones on a good note, stocking choice - fish number wise - is not bad , at all. 25 fish for a 55 is really good stocking. the floaters - great choice they take up tons of nutrients and should help a bit with the algae. when keeping fish you need to decide what you want. if you ant this to be a community tank, you still may need to remove and add some fish to ensure your tank is balanced and not incredibly aggressive. thats all from me good luck!
  15. I found this small white worm in my tank that ive had set up for a few months now Ive seen these before but never this late into an aquarium they usually go when i add fish within a few days... ive had 2 deaths jn the tank is it possible they are linked to this? i also just noticed some white poop?
  16. so i got some test strips today as i never really have them on hand, i only bought four but they gave me five so thats pretty neat. anyways i realised i have never actually tested my 10 gallon which has been running for around 21 months. so i just did and everything is pretty good. general water hardness is a bit high, rather pushing the limit but its been fine for the fish. however there is 1 concerning aspect, in both tanks actually. the ph. both tanks ph are around 7.5 to 8. how can i lower this to be a bit more comfertable?
  17. so my 5 gallon was taken down after having 3 endlers which are now in my 20 gallon my dad cleaned the tank using vinegar which was pretty shocking to me, but i searched it up and apparently its fine as long as there is no clear residue of the vinegar left. i notice now there is some white stuff on the black silicone which im guessing is because of the vinegar but i dont know if it was there before or not. how do i clean this tank to make it ready for the next inhabitants??
  18. i have a 5 gallon tank on my cabinet, it used to house my 3 endlers which are now in the 20. its been empty for weeks now and I'm getting quite tired of seeing it empty. i will need to get some hardscape and whatnot but what should i do with this tank? its 40cm long , 25cm high and 25cm wide. im quite up for anything, however i have myself a challenge, all the scapes i do MUST be shallow, meaning under half way up the tank, or if i really need to, just over. i was thinking some sort of moutain scape? maybe a mangrove? im not sure but then i thought about stocking, originally i was considering shrimp? maybe even an ecosystem for them. but now im wondering what other animals i can house in here (aquatic / semiaquatic) . like frogs? but what type? im not sure, let me know please! Edit: perhaps even some sort of saltwater amphibian / invertabrate that would like this as a home?
  19. if im ill can i put my hand in the fishtank (obviously after cleaning them)? i have a common cold, or flew or something, not sure, but i want to do things on the tank. can i do this or do i risk contaminating the fish or water? this might be stupid to ask
  20. oh my god, i completely forgot i could get these from miadenhead. i was talking about pets at home btw. i seem to buy all my fish from maidenhead and forget it sells these things too lol. im going there tommorow so ill grab some!
  21. what are the most reliable test strips i can buy in bulk for cheap? by bulk i mean a packet of 100-200 which should last around 1 - 2 years if i test weekly both tanks, or just when i need. because everytime i want to do a water test i go to my LFS and they test it for me, the thing is i can keep going back and forward , so i need a lot at home, the ones at the fish store are ridiculously priced, around £8 for 4! (7 in 1 strips) any recomendations? preferably an english company or amazon link(so i can find the england one)
  22. has lists of every (or most/many) types of animal in the world? perhaps including types of plants? fungi? and all the facts and information of them? I'm very curious if anyone has or knows a website like this , im really keen on learning more and more about nature so it would really help!
