  1. Yes, this unit uses water pressure to either put water in or out, took water down to 1/4" or so.
  2. I`m curious to know if anyone else has purchased one of these units. I'm probably way behind the times. AQQA - Aquarium siphon vacuum water changer. I bought this one because I`m too cheap to buy the Python model. Once I figured out how to attach hose to the shutoff valve it worked like a dream. I got the 25foot version.
  3. I finally got 2 tanks up and running. I would like to start with shrimp. (My fish of choice will be small or not too much over 6") My dream is heavily planted tanks, with wood and or rocks. (I have some wood, no rock.) Suggestions on placement of plants - wood - rock will greatly appreciated. (I really don`t have the eye to tell what would look good.) Would I need to use rock with wood or vice versa? (I know it`s probably a matter of preference but that's why I`m asking opinions.) The pictures I see in the forums look really nice. (I have the time to work with plants and landscape, this will keep me busy this winter.) Maybe I should say size of tanks, 40gal.breeder, (I like the size of this tank - I got 3.) -plus 2 - 20gal. long.)
  4. I had a canister filter years ago on a 30gallon, had trouble with it leaking, and also thought it was an overkill. Got rid of it and went under gravel filter really didn`t like that either. Now I`m using only sponge filters. So far, I like how simple they are, and how easy to clean. Good luck whatever way you go.
  5. HI, is this a filter system that sits outside the tank on the floor??
  6. Hi, my two cents on this? I myself just getting back into hobby, I decided to use sponge filters only, some with motors built in, just seems easy way to go, easy to clean also. Had some hang on the back pumps years ago, hated to spend money on filters. I think it comes down to what you are comfortable with.
  7. Thats nice to know if I can figure out how to upload pics. & Stuff. Drip loops?? Had to drain water out of tanks last nite, had stand to close to outlet, top tank has a short cord on filter, I don`t think a loop is feasible, will give more thought to that. (I also didn`t like how gravel / sand looked, hope to change it somehow.)
  8. Good evening, all. Just set up two tanks today, I`m about wore out. One tank has a big filter with airline, had air line outside thank and I could not understand why I had water all over. (Not a lot.) Never used check valves before. (I just learned how to use them.) Now I`m a nervous wreck, unsure what else I forgot. (Will need more gravel that's for sure,) Newbie, I think that term will stay with me a long time. One more thing - what does my attachments mean.
  9. Thanks for the reply's, makes me feel a lot better. Do I have to thank each reply?
  10. Hi all, this might sound silly but, is there any harm to painting the back and sides of a tank. (I`m thinking black.) I ask this because many moons ago I had 2 Discus and they somehow jumped out. I think someone startled them. Never did get any more and that discouraged me about having fish, plus other things. So fast forward 30years and will try again.
  11. HI, Buzz here and I`m in NE Indiana. Yes, getting into the hobby again after 30+ years. I would like to have planted tanks as well as easy maintenance, I hope. Been so long, I`m not sure which way to go yet. My first time in a forum. How do I end this. I also hope to learn how to post pictures??
