  1. Thanks duck, that helps! I have about 15 babies and all are doing well. I've been burying myself in research, since I hadn't planned to breed my corys at all. They seem happier on sand than bare bottom, so I gave them a layer of aquarium sand that I had in the parent's tank. Also a little hiding rock and a bit of driftwood so they could have places to take cover if they want.
  2. I have some albino bronze, and some "green" corys. I'm pretty sure they're a mixed bag. One grew much bigger than the rest, but they all came from the same store under the same label. My babies are probably going to be hybrids so I won't be selling them. Update: The eggs have hatched!!! I would get pics but the babies are so small that my camera just won't focus on them. Wish me luck! Now instead of worrying if they'll hatch, I have to worry about keeping them healthy. But that's a good worry to have. 😄
  3. I must be doing something right, because this morning I found a ton of corydora eggs everywhere. On the glass, on the filter tube, on plants! I snipped some leaves and popped them into my breeder box and now we'll see what happens.
  4. I'm currently living in North Carolina, but I grew up in California. Culture shock when I moved here was strong.
  5. That's pretty scary, but it looks like basic hygiene practices prevent most contamination. I'm honestly more worried about the common things like salmonella, though. Instead of my mouth, I do use a gravel vacuum to start siphons for this very reason.
  6. I bought extra test tubes for my other tanks. I was worried that not allowing them to dry after cleaning might skew results. It probably doesn't, but I'm a bit of a worry wart when it comes to my water babies. It also just sped up the process since I don't have to stop and clean out the tubes in between tanks now.
  7. Surprisingly no! It came from Petsmart! I was planning on building one extremely similar to the look of this one, but they had it in stock with the tank and I was like less work? Yes please. I am working on customizing the inside cabinets, however. Right now, they're an organized mess!
  8. I'm seeing some on amazon, but they look somewhat smaller than what you are looking for. I also don't trust the quality of some of it. I saw some at KG Tropicals too, but they seemed to be on the small side as well. My usual haunts for larger décor are listing the big resin logs as out of stock. Just keep trying, though, someone is bound to have it! Just be sure to read the reviews critically for things like flaking paint that could be a danger to your fish.
  9. Thanks so much for the help, folks. This is a really kind community. I tried an app to identify it and it kept coming back as a guppy and an angelfish which were obviously not right. My mum got attached to this little one, so it looks like I'll be putting together a setup just for him, and a school of buddies, obviously. These guys obviously like to move though, so...20 gallon long? I have a 10 gallon tank that he and some friends can go to for now, but it would be such a shame to toss him into something that small for anything more than short term until i get him just the right setup. Oh no! I'm turning into a crazy fish lady! 🤪🥰
  10. We went to PetSmart looking for zebra danios recently, and when we got them home (along with some others we were looking for), this little fish was mixed in. I'm pretty sure it's a white cloud minnow of some sort, but before we freak out and move it to a non-tropical tank, I want to be absolutely sure. I'm sorry if the pictures aren't the best, this fish can really swim quick and keeping him in focus was a real challenge. Right now, it's in a 20 gallon with some neon tetras, a pretty chill betta, and the zebra danios. The zebras are going to move to the 75 gallon after they finish quarantine, the tetras will stay in the 20 gallon with the betta. The temp there is kept at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. This fish mostly hangs out with the danios, but does wander off alone at times. Any ideas? Am I right? Should I move him to cooler waters, and get him some friends? Or leave him with his warm water buddies?
  11. Hello everyone, I'm super excited to be here! I grew up with fish and the hobby has changed SO MUCH since I was a kid. Back in the old days, you just temp acclimated for maybe 30 minutes and tossed the poor things in. I am learning a ton about how care has advanced from that and am very excited to spoil my fishy-babies properly. A few months ago, I got 75 gallon tank as a birthday present, and my mum inherited my 20 gallon for her home office. She and I are dedicated to doing right by our little friends, so I'm happy to have found an active forum. Before getting any fish, I've done a ton of research, but I'm no expert by any means and having a supportive community is definitely putting me more at ease. I have a half moon dumbo betta fish named Barnaby. He came to us with some pretty beat up looking fins, but they're getting better every day with supportive treatment. We also have a couple small schools of harlequin rasboras, cherry barbs, and corydora catfish (emeralds and albinos). I have a clown pleco, and some black nerite racer snails. My mum has neon tetras, zebra danios, otocinclus, and a platinum/white betta fish. I have a long way to go before my 75 gallon is done, but I'm including a pic. If anyone has any advice, please share!
